🎧  Listen to Introduction

Emei Restaurant opened in 1950 and is the first time-honored restaurant in Beijing that serves Sichuan cuisine. It is now located at No. 58, Beilishi Road. In addition to its main Sichuan cuisine, it also serves some Cantonese cuisine and seafood. At that time, Sichuan cuisine master Wu Yusheng came to Beijing with the "Patriotic Group". That year, Master Wu was just 35 years old, still in his prime years to do things. After coming to Beijing, Wu Yusheng's biggest wish was to open a Sichuan restaurant. He first worked as a chef in a small restaurant in Dong'an Market. Because of his good business, he was squeezed out by other restaurants. Master Wu settled in Shibei Hutong in Xicheng at that time. He knew that Beijing had the saying "rich in the east and noble in the west", and that there were many old and famous restaurants, so he was reluctant to open a restaurant in Xicheng. In 1950, at the initiative of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army, Emei Restaurant was prepared to be opened. You must know that in Beijing, where Shandong cuisine was the main cuisine at that time, opening a Sichuan restaurant was a "hanging matter". Later, the "General Political Department" took the lead and invited Zhang Lan, then Vice Chairman of the Central People's Government, and leaders such as Dong Biwu and Peng Zhen to taste the dishes at Shang Xiaoyun Mansion on Chunshuxia Ertiao, Xuanwu District, with Master Wu as the chief chef. On the day of the tasting, Master Wu prepared several tables of dishes with seven steamed dishes, eight braised dishes, and several stir-fried dishes, which won the recognition of all the guests. In 1950, Emei Restaurant, the first Sichuan restaurant in Beijing, opened in a four-hall courtyard on the west side of the Telegraph Building on West Chang'an Street. When Emei Restaurant opened, most of the guests received important leaders from the central government and the "Political Department". The most unforgettable thing for Master Wu and the most glorious thing for Emei Restaurant was that in 1950, Emei Restaurant gloriously hosted a banquet for heroes to celebrate the victory of the soldiers who fought against the United States and aided Korea. Under the leadership of Master Wu, Emei Restaurant held banquets for several consecutive days to comfort the heroes. In the following decades, under the leadership of Wu Yusheng, a "senior chef", Emei Restaurant gained a reputation in Beijing. Due to social changes and various reasons, Emei Restaurant has also moved to different locations several times. It has been prosperous in Taipingqiao Street in Xicheng District, the second floor of Xidan Shopping Mall, and the west side of the north gate of Yuetan Park. In 1993, it was said that because of the adjustment of the financial and trade system in Xicheng District, the real estate of Emei Restaurant and the Hongta Shopping Mall under Dibai were rented to "Monissa". Emei Restaurant ended its 43-year history of operation in Xicheng District and moved to the factory building of the Second Machine Tool Factory at Shoupa Hutongkou, Guangwai Hongju Street, Xuanwu District. As a result, due to the remote location and unfamiliarity with the place, the business was half-dead, which greatly damaged the "vitality" and operated bleakly for three years. It was not until 1996 that Beijing Huatian Catering Group decided to move Emei Restaurant back to Xicheng in order to rescue and protect the old brand. At the end of the same year, it opened for the fifth time at No. 309 Zhaodengyu Road, Xicheng District. When it opened, the plaque inscribed by Mr. Mei Lanfang was hung again, and Mr. Mei's eldest son Mei Baojiu was invited to unveil the plaque. Since then, Emei Restaurant has gradually recovered its vitality. But the place is still not big, and it is often anxious about the place when there is business. Therefore, the company decided to continue to expand Emei Restaurant. In 2000, Huatian spent money to buy out the 50-year operating rights of a three-story building (formerly the staff canteen) of the former Xinhua Printing Factory, and invested more than 15 million yuan in decoration and supply. With the beautiful scenery and the unique "Emei Sichuan cuisine", Emei Restaurant is like sitting in the spring breeze, with customers coming in, reappearing the glory of the past. Emei Restaurant has a construction area of 2,000 square meters and an elegant dining environment. The first floor hall is mainly open for public consumption, serving economical Sichuan dishes and various snacks; the second floor is dotted with vines, small ponds, and autumn fences, which is quiet and pleasant. The second and third floors are mainly special rooms named after Sichuan scenic spots, full of Sichuan style and charm, serving fine Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine, and hosting mid-to-high-end banquets. At the same time, a takeaway window was opened in front of the store, specializing in selling Emei Restaurant's cooked food, which is convenient for customers to buy. Emei Restaurant currently has 75 employees with strong technical force, including more than 30 cooking technicians, pastry technicians, cold meat technicians, and service technicians. In 2005, the sales revenue exceeded 10 million yuan, and the profit was 2 million yuan, ranking first in the double index increase of Jude Huatian. In 2006, the sales revenue was 14.84 million yuan, and the profit was 2.55 million yuan, setting a new historical high. Today's Emei Restaurant is a modern catering enterprise and an enterprise with unlimited vitality.
