Peng'an Fire Dragon

Sichuan
🎧  Listen to Introduction

There is no record of the origin of the fire dragon and the time when it spread to Peng'an, but it has been circulated in urban and rural areas of Peng'an for many years. Generally, the fire dragon starts on the night of the first day of the first lunar month and ends on the night of the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. In the past, the fire dragon would end on the fifteenth night and burn the dragon by the river; now the dragon is not burned on the fifteenth night, and some places do not perform the fire dragon on the first night of the first lunar month. For example: the Xu family in Peng'an performed the Niuwanghui, and burned the dragon on the same night after the performance, indicating that the dragon was sent away; Zhoukou performed the Shangjiuhui (the birthday of the Jade Emperor), and people hoped that the Jade Emperor would bless the world and make the world have good weather and good harvests.
