The "Dancing Fire Dragon" in Fang County is also called playing with dragon lanterns. Dancing the fire dragon is the most local folk activity of the Lantern Festival in Fang County. Playing with lanterns has a long history. It is said that it began in the heyday, flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and has been passed down to this day. In the twelfth lunar month, the fire dragon is made, the lanterns are put out on the thirteenth day of the first lunar month, and the lanterns are played from the fourteenth to the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. The lantern festival will end on the sixteenth day of the first lunar month, which is called "reverse lanterns". During the Lantern Festival, the fire dragon will show its style, attracting tourists from all directions to watch, and is deeply loved by people. The fire dragon in Fang County has been selected as the fifth batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage in Hubei Province. On the thirteenth day of the first lunar month every year, Fang County will hold a literary and artistic parade, bringing folk cultural feasts such as dancing dragon lanterns, the Book of Songs, rice wine, yangko dance, and land boat rowing to the doorsteps of residents. On the thirteenth day of the first lunar month, a parade of thousands of people set off from the county's Tangcheng Square, passing Fangling Avenue and Wudang Road along the way, and ending at the Sunjiawan Bridgehead, a section of about 3 kilometers long. The parade was led by a dragon dance team. With the majestic sound of drums and trumpets, the performers ran and moved, and adults and children walked back and forth under the dragon's body, praying for good health in the coming year. According to records, the custom of going to the streets to celebrate the spring festival on the 13th day of the first lunar month in Fang County originated in the Tang Dynasty and has continued to this day. The cultural and artistic parade is of great significance in showing the profound cultural heritage of Fang County and promoting the folk art and historical culture of Fangling.
