Feng Menglong, a famous writer in the Ming Dynasty, set up a special volume "Tongcheng Popular Songs" in "Mountain Songs", which recorded 24 Tongcheng Songs and called them "rhymes and recitations in rural dialect". Not only did it become the main local folk song during the period when Anhui folk songs were popular, but it also influenced Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi and western Zhejiang. Historically, a wide-ranging "Tongcheng Folk Song Cultural Belt" was formed, especially in the formation and development of Huangmei Opera, which played a genetic role in nurturing and shaping. In 2008, the "Tongcheng Songs" applied by Tongcheng City, Anhui Province were approved by the State Council to be included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
