Sanyou Photo Studio Sanyou Photo Studio is one of the famous photographers in Harbin today. Its founder is Lin Rongsan. Lin Rongsan was born in Xiacun, Rushan County, Shandong Province in 1895. Because his family was poor and he could not make a living, he ran away from home at the age of 16 to make a living. He fell into Vladivostok and returned to China in 1922. In 1923, he opened Meihua Photo Studio on Zhongguo Twelve Street in Daoli (now the upstairs of Zhenmei Photo Studio). Later, he set up a branch on Beitoudao Street in Daowai, which was still called "Meihua Photo Studio". Around 1930, Lin rented a store on Zhengyang Street, the most prosperous street in Harbin, and opened a store named "Sanyou Photo Studio". "Meihua" in Daoli, "Meihua" and "Sanyou" in Daowai were actually operated by Lin Rongsan alone. The so-called "Three Friends" refers to the three photo studios with similar capital, equipment and technology, and they are united and should become "friends". As soon as the Three Friends Photo Studio opened, it became the center of Harbin's photography industry with its grand scale (dozens of employees at the time), advanced equipment (all imported from the Soviet Union), and superb skills (highly invested in training and employing famous teachers). Lin Rongsan appointed his eldest apprentice, Gao Fengming, a colorist with comprehensive skills, as the manager, appointed famous teacher Lin Jinkui to be responsible for plate repair and enlargement, and appointed famous photography teacher Sun Xunian to be responsible for photography. The superb skills of Gao, Lin and Sun were not only admired by the masters of the photography industry in the three northeastern provinces, but also famous throughout the country. Lin Rongsan accumulated strong technical strength for the "Three Friends", laying a solid foundation for future development. Mr. Lin Rongsan's main contribution to the photography industry was to keep the four major processes of "Sanfa" in the leading position, namely, photography, plate retouching, enlargement and coloring, and to strive for excellence and continuous improvement and development. Finally, with the absolute advantage of craftsmanship, he became the representative of the Russian photography art school in Harbin's photography industry. The main feature of his operation of Sanyou Photo Studio was that famous teachers strictly maintained the leading quality standards. Secondly, he strived to be flexible and diverse in operation, and never confined himself to the photo studio as a "sit-and-sit business". Customers who came to the studio to take photos should be warm and thoughtful. Whether it was funerals, weddings, birthdays or group photos, they were always available at any time. Thirdly, he gave full play to his own advantages in equipment and technology, and constantly updated and improved. At that time, photo studios all used natural lighting, and relied on multiple white curtains in the glass house to adjust the natural light. "Sanyou" was the first in Harbin to use electric lights for artificial lighting, using headlights, sidelights, and footlights. The photos taken were moderate in brightness and shade, delicate in texture, and strong in three-dimensional sense. "Sanyou" was also the first to use artificial coloring on enlarged black and white photos. When coloring, no soft brush or writing brush was used, only the palm and fingers were used. Not only could the faces or clothes of the characters be painted with harmonious and bright natural colors, but also beautiful distant views could be directly painted on the photos. Sanyou Photo Studio disappeared for a time during the Cultural Revolution, and the name of the store was changed to "New China Photo Studio". After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, it was reborn again. The policy of "opening up and revitalizing" restored the old brand of "Sanyou Photo Studio". At present, Sanyou Photo Studio has made new developments. The business area has expanded to 1,187 square meters, and the studio has expanded to 200 square meters. There are 77 employees, including 1 special technician, 5 first-level technicians, 6 third-level technicians, 1 first-level waiter, and 1 second-level waiter. Complete sets of equipment and technology were introduced from abroad. In 1986, a joint venture relationship was established with Hong Kong Dafeng Trading Co., Ltd., and color printing, enlargement, and photocopying services were added.
