The legend of Menglong Tower is a folk literature project in the third batch of representative projects of Yancheng City-level intangible cultural heritage. The legend of Menglong Tower is a folk legend derived from the origin of the ancient tower Menglong Tower in the territory. The ancient tower is located at the intersection of Sheyang River and Xitang River in Baota Village, Baota Town, Jianhu County. According to the "Funing County Chronicles" of the Qing Dynasty Guangxu: The tower is in front of Jinghui Temple in Menglong Town, southwest of the county seat. The temple was built in the third year of Wude in the Tang Dynasty (620). The temple no longer exists, and only one tower remains. The tower is different from the brick eaves pavilion-style brick towers in the south and north of the Yangtze River in terms of shape and structure, and has obvious local characteristics. In 2013, it was included in the third batch of municipal intangible cultural heritage project protection list. Legend has it that when Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, ascended the throne, he led his army to the east. One night, he patrolled the camp alone and encountered the enemy general Gai Suwen. Li Shimin was defeated and fled. On the way, he saw a dry well and hid in it. The pursuers saw spider webs all over the wellhead and turned away. After Li Shimin ascended the throne, in order to fulfill his vow and express gratitude, he sent Yuchi Gong to build a tower on the well. The emperor was a dragon and the spider web covered the dragon, so the tower was named Menglong, and later it was called Menglong Tower. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
