According to legend, once Emperor Kangxi went to Fengtian to worship his ancestors' graves. When he passed by Aohan, he dressed up as a businessman and walked along the Laoha River with his attendants to see the people's sentiments. One day, the group sat down to rest halfway. Kangxi stood on the sand mound, took a deep breath, and admired the scenery of the desert. He looked and looked, and couldn't help but walk down the sand mound. It was midsummer, and the old man was shining in the sky. The white dry sand pit was hot as a steamer. Emperor Kangxi had never suffered such a punishment when he was in the palace. He was hot and thirsty, and his eyes were confused. He didn't know the directions. Emperor Kangxi turned around in the sand pit, and the farther he turned from his attendants, he turned around and around until he came to a yurt. Kangxi was thirsty and his limbs were weak. He wanted to shout loudly and let the people in the yurt help him to lie down in the house for a while. However, he did not dare to reveal his identity, so he dragged his heavy steps to the door of a house. "Hey, is there anyone in the tent? Pour me a bowl of water." Kangxi shouted loudly. A white-haired old man walked out of the yard. He pushed open the door, looked at the passerby in surprise, and closed the door with a squeak. Kangxi had to walk to another door: "Hey, someone in the yard, come and open the door. I'm going to your house to rest for a while," Kangxi shouted again. A middle-aged woman walked out of the yard. She lifted the door curtain, looked at the fat stranger in panic, and quickly closed the door. Emperor Kangxi walked through more than a dozen yurts in a row, but no one answered him. He was hungry and thirsty, angry and annoyed, so he had to sit under a big tree and fainted soon. A dry wind blew off his hat and blew his hair into a mess. Another dry wind blew, rolling up the cow and sheep dung on the ground, making his face gray. The old crow on the tree called "Ga! Ga" twice, flapped its wings, and the bird droppings and weeds in the crow's nest fell to the ground and landed on him. At this time, Kangxi no longer looked like an emperor. He was just a beggar! Opposite the big tree lived an old man named Xie. At this time, when Old Xie went out, he suddenly saw a passerby lying under the big tree in front of the door. He couldn't help but feel pity for him. He hurried to Kangxi and gently carried him to his room. Old Xie put Kangxi on the kang and poured a few spoonfuls of water into his mouth. After a while, Kangxi woke up. Kangxi leaned on the kang and looked at Old Xie with gratitude. Seeing sweat on his forehead, Old Xie knew he was very hungry, so he hurriedly brought the four half-bran and half-grain steamed buns he had left over from the morning to him and said apologetically: "Brother, we owe food in this famine year, and the palace is urging us to pay rent and debts. The herdsmen don't have much to eat. Just make do with what you have for now." "Old man, why is your dry food so delicious?" Kangxi was full and drank enough. While wiping his mouth, he kept praising: "What is the name of this dry food? How is it made?" Old Xie was an old man who liked to joke. Seeing that this passerby had never eaten such a steamed bun, he joked with him: "My dry food is a craft passed down from my ancestors. When making it, I use ten fingers on my hands, two thumbs to dig out from the inside, and the other eight fingers to press in from the outside, so that it looks like a tower, so it is called the golden tower with two inside and eight outside." "The golden tower with two inside and eight outside, good, good!" Emperor Kangxi was happily praising the famous meal he had just eaten. His attendants came to him in a panic. He did not dare to stand outside for a long time. He wrote down the address and name of Old Xie and hurried on his way. After Emperor Kangxi came back, he lived his life of drinking and eating again. On this day, he tasted a spoonful of bird's nest soup and felt it was tasteless. He chewed a mouthful of shark fin and felt it was fishy and greasy. What to eat? He suddenly remembered that when he visited Aohan Banner privately, the golden tower with two inside and eight outside was the most delicious, so he immediately ordered the chef to make him the golden tower with two inside and eight outside. The chef followed his instructions, used snow-white refined flour, mixed with browned butter, made a pagoda-shaped pastry, and kneeled down to bring it to him. Kangxi took a bite and found it tasteless. He was so angry that he threw the pastry on the ground with a "pop" and ordered the chef to get out of the palace. Kangxi summoned another chef, who brought the same pastry and was also driven out of the palace. Kangxi saw that there was no other way, so he had to issue an imperial decree to quickly summon Old Xie from Aohan to meet him. The imperial envoy did not dare to neglect it, and rode a camel, traveling day and night, to bring Old Xie into the capital. It was not until then that Old Xie realized that the passerby he had rescued that day was the current emperor, so he had to bite the bullet and make a steamed bun for the emperor. Kangxi took a bite of the steamed bread made by Old Xie, and the taste was even harder to swallow. He was so angry that he slapped the dragon table and shouted loudly: "I used to eat the golden pagoda with two inside and eight outside that you made, which was so delicious. Why is it like this now? You are deceiving the emperor!" Old Xie saw that the emperor was angry and was in danger of being beheaded. He didn't care about much, knelt down and crawled half a step, and said: "Your Majesty, the meal I cook for you now is exactly the same as the meal you ate last time. Why is it not tasty this time? Because you ate it when you were hungry that time. This is called 'eating bran when hungry is as sweet as honey, and eating honey when full is not sweet!'" When Emperor Kangxi heard this, he woke up from his dream, but he didn't want to lose face in front of his ministers, so he waved his hand and said, "Give me a reward." Then he dispersed the court. In this way, the story of the golden pagoda with two inside and eight outside spread. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)(No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
