Shi's trauma therapy originated from Mr. Shi Weizhi, one of the 500 old Chinese medicine practitioners in China and one of the "Eight Great Traumatologists" in Shanghai. It began in the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty in Haimen, Jiangsu Province, Shi Zhencang, and has been passed down for five generations. In 1938, Mr. Shi Weizhi started practicing in Shanghai. In 1958, he moved to a state-owned hospital and recruited many disciples. He founded the Department of Orthopedics at Xiangshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1985 and developed the ancestral theories, methods, prescriptions and medicines, which are still used today with remarkable efficacy. After Mr. Shi, under the leadership of Wu Yunding, a famous trauma expert and Shanghai famous old Chinese medicine practitioner, Mr. Shi's academic thoughts and clinical experience were inherited and carried forward, and the bone massage experience of Mr. Lu Wen, a famous Chinese medicine massage master in Shanghai, was integrated. Together with the late academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the "father of limb replantation", Professor Chen Zhongwei, modern scientific and technological research and application were used to achieve remarkable results in lumbar disc herniation, cervical spondylosis, acute and chronic soft tissue injuries, atlantoaxial subluxation, and osteoarthritis. In the 1950s, Shi's Traumatology Department first proposed the concept of "three-stage treatment of closed fractures", which promoted the improvement of fracture treatment level and the establishment of clinical diagnosis and treatment programs, and won the Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine and Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Medical Achievement Award. In the 1970s, Shi's Traumatology Department specialized in the traditional Chinese medicine treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis, proposed the academic viewpoint of syndrome differentiation and classification treatment, created the Dilong Shuyao Decoction and other effective prescriptions, and won the Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine and Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Medical Achievement Award. In the early 1990s, Shi's Traumatology Department carried out clinical and scientific research work on lumbar disc herniation, formulated a three-stage syndrome differentiation and classification diagnosis and treatment program for lumbar disc herniation, and an individualized evaluation and treatment program for lumbar disc herniation, and won the "Shang Tianyu International Science and Technology Award", bringing the diagnosis and treatment of lumbar disc herniation to the domestic advanced level.
