The Grand View Garden is an antique garden that reproduces the landscape of the "Grand View Garden" in the famous Chinese classical literature "Dream of Red Mansions". It is located in the Nancaiyuan of Xuanwu District (on the moat in the southwest corner of the city). The original site was the royal vegetable garden of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the "Jia Shu Office" was set up here in the Ming Dynasty. In 1984, in order to shoot the TV series "Dream of Red Mansions", after discussions among Redology scholars, ancient architects, landscape gardeners and Qing history experts, it was built according to the author's description in the book using the techniques of Chinese classical architecture and traditional garden art. The garden architecture, mountain-shaped water system, plant landscaping, and small pieces in the garden all strive to be faithful to the era style and detailed description of the original work. The Grand View Garden in "Dream of Red Mansions" was built for Yuanchun, the eldest daughter of the Jia family, to visit her relatives, so the garden regularly holds the "Yuanfei Visiting Her Parents" costume performance. The Grand View Garden has a total area of 12.5 hectares, a construction area of more than 8,000 square meters, a water system of 24,000 square meters, and 60,000 cubic meters of earth and stone. The whole garden has five courtyard scenic areas, three natural scenic areas, one Buddhist temple scenic area, and one palace scenic area, with a total of more than 40 scenic spots. The Grand View Garden holds the "Red Mansion Temple Fair" from the first to the sixth day of the Lunar New Year every year. The contents of the temple fair include: art performances, folk flower fairs, local snacks, folk activities, etc. Among them, the "Yuanfei's Visit to Her Parents" costume parade is a traditional project and unique feature of the Grand View Garden Cultural Temple Fair. During the 15th day of the eighth lunar month every year, the "Beijing Grand View Garden 'Mid-Autumn Night'" is also held. The event features art performances, moon-watching reunions, and night view viewing. Each session is held for 3 to 4 days and is a traditional brand project of the Beijing Mid-Autumn Festival.

Philosophy related to the heritage

Interpretation of Beijing Grand View Garden from the perspective of Eastern philosophy As a symbol of Jia Mansion in Dream of Red Mansions, the garden design and layout of Beijing Grand View Garden contain profound Eastern philosophical thoughts. From the perspective of Eastern philosophy, the Grand View Garden embodies the concept of "harmony between man and nature". The landscape, architecture and natural environment in the garden coexist harmoniously, symbolizing the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. Every scene in the garden, such as Yihong Courtyard and Xiaoxiang Pavilion, reflects the pursuit of "artistic conception" in Chinese classical philosophy. Through the layout and naming of the scenery, it creates an aesthetic realm that transcends materiality and guides people into a state of spiritual transcendence. In addition, the design techniques of "winding paths leading to secluded places" and "borrowing scenery" in the Grand View Garden embody the Taoist idea of "ruling by doing nothing", that is, to achieve inner peace and harmony by conforming to nature. Interpretation of Beijing Grand View Garden from the perspective of Western philosophy From the perspective of Western philosophy, Beijing Grand View Garden can be interpreted as a space full of symbolic meanings, reflecting human exploration of an ideal society and personal spiritual pursuits. The architecture and landscape layout in the Grand View Garden can be regarded as a "utopian" concept, similar to Plato's "Republic", which provides an idealized social model that includes the pursuit of order, harmony and beauty. At the same time, every scene in the Grand View Garden, such as the contrast between "Rong Mansion" and "Ning Mansion", reflects the binary opposition thinking of "good" and "evil", "beauty" and "ugliness" in Western philosophy. In addition, the fate and choices of the characters in the Grand View Garden also reflect the discussion of free will and fate in Western philosophy. For example, the different life trajectories of Lin Daiyu and Xue Baochai reflect the complex relationship between personal choice and social environment. In summary, whether from the perspective of Eastern philosophy or Western philosophy, Beijing's Grand View Garden is not just a material garden, it is also a space full of philosophical thinking and spiritual pursuit, guiding people to explore the profound relationship between man and nature, man and society, and man and self.
