The Miao Autumn Festival is usually held in August. The Autumn Festival, also known as the Autumn Society Festival and the Autumn Festival, is a traditional festival of the Miao people in Huayuan, Xiangxi and other places. Before the autumn harvest or the beginning of autumn, the Miao people will dress up, gather in groups, and gather on the traditional autumn slope to swing, play the sheng, sing and dance. The "Autumn Old Man" wishes everyone a good harvest and happiness. The Miao Autumn Festival is a festival for the Miao people to celebrate the harvest, and it is also a festival for young Miao men and women to socialize. It is mainly spread in Huayuan County, Fenghuang County, Jishou City, Baojing County, Guzhang County, Luxi County of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Hunan Province, as well as Songtao County in Guizhou Province, Xiushan County in Chongqing City, Laifeng County in Hubei Province and other Miao areas, forming a Miao Autumn Festival cultural circle of about 2 million people. The Autumn Festival is called "Ganchangqiu" in Miao language. Ganqiu means that on the beginning of autumn every year, whichever place in the Miao area is a market (i.e. "market"), this market is the autumn market of that year. Some say the origin of "Catching the Autumn Day" is "Catching the Autumn Day" and some say it is "Catching the Swing". Autumn is coming, harvest is in sight, and celebrating the harvest is a common saying since ancient times. Only the "Catching the Autumn Field" has the most Miao characteristics and is rich in the festival cultural connotations of the Miao people. The Miao Autumn Festival reflects its artistic characteristics of diversity, comprehensiveness, uniqueness, integrity, popularity, and reality. It has important values such as promoting national culture, inspiring national spirit, highlighting national characteristics, and highlighting national soul. It is a carrier for enhancing national unity, progress and exchanges, and promoting social harmony and stability. In November 2019, the "List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Project Protection Units" was announced, and the Huayuan County Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center was qualified as a "Miao Catch the Autumn" protection unit. In 2014, Huayuan's "Miao Catch the Autumn" was listed in the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection project list. In November 2016, it was officially listed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO.
