Rolling dragon Lianxiang is a folk dance with unique regional characteristics in Xuanen County, and it is named after the "rolling". Lianxiang (Xiang), also known as beating Lianxiang (Xiang), dancing with flower sticks or being called the Overlord Whip, has a history of at least 200 years in Xuanen. Lianxiang had many performance forms in Xuanen earlier, such as Lianxiang and meat Lianxiang. Zhou Shuting, an outstanding inheritor of Lianxiang in Lijiahe, Xuanen, absorbed the strengths of various schools and creatively added the dynamic image of "rolling" on the basis of traditional Lianxiang movements such as snowflakes covering the roof, ancient tree roots, yellow dragon wrapped around the waist, and rhinoceros looking at the moon. In order to highlight the artistic effect of "rolling", a whole set of newly created high-difficulty movements such as one step 0 head, Taigong fishing, couple watching lanterns, double dragons holding pillars, cranes and eagles spreading wings, and sleeping dragons rolling were integrated, and the essence of martial arts in some folk acrobatics and local dramas was absorbed, thus forming a refreshing and unique rolling dragon Lianxiang. The dragon-rolling dance skillfully integrates the traditional dance, lotus-playing and singing into rolling, dancing and singing. During the performance, the actors dance the dance with one hand and the lotus-playing dance with the other hand, with a distinct and harmonious rhythm. When they roll and jump, they dance different props with both hands, which looks like a dragon entangled in the body and a tiger leaping and soaring. The dancers' movements are smooth and stretched, with appropriate tension and relaxation, and a combination of rigidity and flexibility, which is dazzling and eye-catching, and full of artistic appeal. The accompaniment music is mostly local folk songs or minor tunes, and the accompaniment instruments generally include erhu, flute, etc. The basic movements of the traditional dance include snowflakes covering the top, ancient trees with intertwined roots, yellow dragons wrapped around the waist, beauties combing their hair, rhinoceroses looking at the moon, waist and knees flowers, etc. During the performance, they sing and dance, mostly for couples or groups of people. The lyrics are mostly about congratulations, compliments, and current events in life. Sometimes drum accompaniment is added between sections, with one person leading the singing and everyone echoing, which is lively and cheerful. The "Rolling Dragon Lianxiang" is a new dance that skillfully combines singing, dancing and music, and incorporates the essence of folk acrobatics and some martial arts of southern opera. It is based on six difficult movements, including one step and 0 head, Taigong fishing, couple watching lanterns, double dragons holding pillars, cranes and eagles spreading their wings, and crouching dragons rolling. During the performance, the dancers hold the Lianxiang in one hand and two large bamboo boards in the other hand, rolling and leaping, combining dance, music and singing, which is dazzling. The Lianxiang singing, fighting, jumping, rolling and other movements are integrated into one, which is active and fit, and is deeply loved by local people. In 2009, the Rolling Dragon Lianxiang was selected into the second batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage.
