Shangcai Chongyang Customs
The Chongyang custom in Shangcai is a living continuation of the traditional Chongyang folk rituals in Shangcai County, Henan Province. In the "Continuation of Qixieji" written by Wu Jun of the Liang Dynasty in the Southern Dynasties, there is a story that "wearing dogwood to tie the arm, climbing high and drinking chrysanthemum wine" on September 9th can avoid disasters. It is said that the place where the protagonist Huan Jing climbed is Lugang, where the county seat of Shangcai is located today. The Chongyang customs preserved in Shangcai at present are: 1. Before the Chongyang Festival, every household picks chrysanthemums and makes wine for the next year. 2. On the eve of the Chongyang Festival, every household sews and wears dogwood red bags. 3. Every family avoids meat and eats vegetarian food on the Chongyang Festival. 4. In the early morning of the Chongyang Festival, every household climbs high, drinks chrysanthemum wine at noon, and eats Chongyang cakes. 5. When an old man is 79, his children and grandchildren offer him chrysanthemum wine together; when an old man is 63, his daughter-in-law and daughter send him "jujube mountain". This project plays an important role in carrying forward the fine traditions of the Chinese nation and enhancing the social trend of respecting the elderly among the community.
