Qingyun wooden comb making technique
The craft of making Qingyun wooden combs is a traditional craft project in the sixth batch of representative projects of Suzhou's municipal intangible cultural heritage. The birthplace of Qingyun wooden combs is in Taodun Village, northwest corner of Qingyun Community, Taoyuan Town, Wujiang, Suzhou. The craft of making Qingyun wooden combs has a long history. According to research, as early as the Qing Dynasty, there were small workshops making wooden combs in Taodun Village. In the 1970s and 1980s, wooden glue combs made in Qingyun were popular. Wooden glue combs are made of cloth or paper and then pressed with special glue. They are strong and cheap. At that time, Qingyun wooden glue combs had already presented a one-stop production, supply and marketing, with thousands of people engaged in the industry. As long as you find someone selling combs across the country, you will definitely find that they are from Qingyun. In the 1990s, ancient towns around Qingyun, such as Wuzhen, Zhouzhuang, and Nanxun, have successively started a tourism boom in water towns, and handicrafts have become the darling of the public. The craft of making Qingyun wooden combs has ushered in a broader prospect and entered a period of prosperous development. After entering the 21st century, handmade horn combs have quietly emerged in the comb-making industry. Therefore, Qingyun combing art grafted traditional handicrafts into ox horn combs, forming a unique ox horn comb production process. The new ox horn combs are made of exquisite materials, and are designed and made into different ox horn combs according to different ox horn shapes and colors. Once the ox horn combs with exquisite craftsmanship such as swan combs, small fish combs, and longevity turtle combs are on the market, they are called a new wonder in Suzhou folk crafts by industry insiders and experts. Two years ago, Wujiang Comb Art Home Crafts Factory successfully registered the "Niujiaofang" trademark. Qingyun wooden combs were made of wood materials in the past: pear trees, nan trees, boxwood trees, holly trees, etc. In the late 1970s, insulating low-sense boards and cloth rubber boards were used as raw materials. Its process flow: 1. Select materials; 2. Segment materials; 3. Saw blanks; 4. Cast blanks for export; 5. Marking; 6. Open teeth; 7. Store; 8. Pick teeth; 9. Square; 10. Wrap around the back; 11. Polish; 12. Oil; 13. Packaging. The Chinese nation has always paid attention to people's appearance. China has always been known as a "country of etiquette", and combing hair is the most important etiquette. Therefore, a wooden comb is an indispensable item in people's lives. The craftsmanship of making wooden combs is closely related to daily life and is also an integral part of Chinese etiquette culture, which should be passed on and promoted.
