Folk Tales from Gupi Town, Suining
Folk Stories of Ancient Pi Town, Suining, a folk literature project in the first batch of representative projects of municipal intangible cultural heritage in Xuzhou. Ancient Pi Town, Suining has a long history. It is not only the political, economic and cultural center of the east of the Central Plains in ancient my country, but also an ancient battlefield during the Three Kingdoms period. Many real stories in history, such as "The Shoes of the Aqueduct", "The Battle between Cao and Liu", "Lü Bu Hanged at Baimen Tower", and "Zao Rong Built the Futu Temple", took place here. Ancient Pi Town, Suining, has beautiful mountains and rivers and unique scenery, which has attracted many literati, monks and Taoists from all dynasties to visit. Therefore, many famous works have been left behind, which contain rich folk legends. For thousands of years, these oral literary works have been passed down from generation to generation among the people and have become an important part of the cultural heritage of Ancient Pi. Ancient Pi Town was historically known as Xia Pi. In the seventh year of Emperor Kangxi's reign, Xia Pi suffered a severe earthquake disaster, which destroyed the ancient city with a long history permanently in an instant, leaving a deep mark on the residents who survived the disaster. Survivors miss Xia Pi and always tell stories in the form of "chatting" and "telling stories" about how their ancestors were proud of Xia Pi's glory, and pass them on to future generations in an orderly manner from generation to generation. The folk tales of Gu Pi Town are complete in variety and rich in content. They can be divided into five categories: myths, legends, stories, jokes, folk songs, and nursery rhymes. Most of the folk tales of Gu Pi are short and original in content; especially the plot development is concise and clear, with less development and change; coupled with the colloquial expression, it often starts with a single knife and ends abruptly. Some stories still leave a certain suspense, which is very rich in national temperament and local flavor. The folk tales of Gu Pi Town vividly depict the characteristics of the traditional culture of the Han nationality in agricultural areas in the area east of the Central Plains. It is a very valuable material for studying the national history, local history, customs history, and cultural history of northern Jiangsu, especially ancient Xia Pi.
