Xinjiang
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Maixirepu is a special form of folk entertainment for the Uygur people in Xinjiang. It is also an ancient folk cultural activity with a long history and continuous inheritance. The word "Mixirepu" comes from Arabic, meaning "gathering". Maixirepu is mainly based on dance and entertainment activities. Participants entertain themselves and there are many people. Maixirepu can be divided into singing and dancing Maixirepu, game Maixirepu, and rap Maixirepu according to the performance form. It can also be divided into living room Maixirepu, welcoming Maixirepu and harvest Maixirepu according to the performance content. All parts of Xinjiang have their own Maixirepu, which are similar in form and are named "Daolang", "Koke", "Tahe" and so on, each with different characteristics. Daolang Maixirepu is popular in Awati County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Awati County is located in the central and western part of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the northwestern edge of the Tarim Basin, and the lower reaches of the Yarkand River. It borders Aksu in the northeast and extends deep into the Taklimakan Desert in the south. The Aksu River, the Yarkand River, and the Hotan River meet here. The total population is about 219,600, consisting of 15 ethnic groups including Uyghur, Han, Hui, Kazakh, etc. It is a typical minority inhabited area. Maishirepu is a form of singing and dancing art. It does not require a special stage and costumes, but to hold it, you must find Yigtibesi, Mirewazi, Nagmikaisi (musicians), dancers and comedians. With the changes in society, there are fewer and fewer spontaneous Daolang Maishirepu singing activities by the masses, the number of participants is also declining, and the scope of activities is shrinking. Under this situation, Xinjiang Uyghur Daolang Maishirepu is in danger of extinction and urgently needs to be rescued and protected. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
