According to folklore, the 19th day of the second lunar month is the birthday of Guanyin Bodhisattva, the 19th day of the sixth lunar month is the day when Guanyin Bodhisattva attained enlightenment, and the 19th day of the ninth lunar month is the day when Guanyin Bodhisattva became a monk. During these three seasons, the people of Suining regard Lingquan Temple and Guangde Temple as the holy places for incense worship, and hold a grand pilgrimage to the mountains and incense. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Buddhist activities during the incense festival have been very grand. Good men and women from Yunnan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Gansu, the two lakes and other provinces and more than 100 counties in Sichuan have spontaneously organized "pilgrimages to the mountains and incense" to worship Guanyin Bodhisattva in teams. The pilgrimage teams came one after another, carrying colorful flags, carrying the holy carriage, carrying nine-grade candles, holding incense plates containing salt, tea, incense, flowers, fruits, treasures, pearls, lamps, water, and clothes, wearing yellow aprons with the four words "pilgrimage to the mountains and incense" tied around their waists, chanting "Namo Amitabha", playing flutes, beating gongs and drums, and it was very lively. The pilgrimage team was more than a thousand meters long. After 1 in the city, take a boat across the river to Lingquan Temple for worship, then go to Guangde Temple for worship, and then go to Chenghuang Temple to burn the holy carriage and the Ling Palace before ending. In the June incense meeting, good men and women devoutly hope to burn "midnight incense" at midnight on June 19th, praying for the auspicious time to always be there. In the September incense meeting, after the autumn harvest, pilgrims bring newly harvested grains, cotton, peanuts, fruits and other agricultural and sideline products to thank Guanyin Bodhisattva for her blessing, pile up incense plates, burn incense and repay their wishes. During the three incense meetings in Suining every year, activities such as "industry persuasion meetings" and "martial arts competitions" are held to promote economic, trade and cultural and sports activities.
