Since ancient times, countless visitors have speculated and guessed, and many magical legends have been brewed among the people. These stories have been passed down by word of mouth, making the Shengquan Mountain Guanyin Temple famous. Believers, curiosity seekers, and visitors come here one after another, each with their own experience, making the Shengquan Mountain Guanyin Temple located in the deep mountains not desolate, and far away from human beings but full of incense. Mountains are not high, but they are famous if there are immortals; water is not deep, but it is magical if there are dragons. Today, the Shengquan Mountain Guanyin Temple has a special fate. Guanyin Bodhisattva has reappeared in the golden body, the mountain gate has been reopened, and the holy spring has flowed again. Friends from all walks of life are welcome to climb Shengquan Mountain and visit Guanyin Temple. They will gain something in their body and mind. Shengquan Mountain Guanyin Temple is located in the valley on the east side of Maitreya Peak, the back peak of Shengquan Mountain. It is a regular two-entry quadrangle. In front is the mountain gate. Although it is small in scale, the three gates stand side by side and are close to Nanshan. There is only a ten-foot corridor inside the middle gate, which is a main hall. The valley is called Weituo Hall, where Maitreya Buddha is enshrined. The back door of the Weituo Hall leads to the main courtyard. The main hall with three rooms and two entrances on the north side is the Great Hall of the Buddha, where the Buddha Sakyamuni is enshrined, and the Bodhisattvas Manjusri and Samantabhadra are enshrined. There are three side halls in the east and west of the main courtyard. The west wing is dedicated to the Nanhai Guanyin, and the east wing is dedicated to the Ruyilun Guanyin. The courtyard is not large, and the buildings are carved with beams, which are elegant and compact. There are two stone tablets on the left and right in front of the main hall. The left one is the Chenghua Merit Stele of the Ming Dynasty, and the right one is the Jiaqing Merit Stele of the Qing Dynasty. The ancient well in front of the right tablet is the Weituo Shenbei Well. The well mouth is covered with stone slabs, which are polished and smooth, and the wooden pulley in the well is an antique. Shengquanshan Guanyin Temple was first built in the Tang Dynasty, and it has a history of a thousand years. However, the situation has changed so much that no exact written records can be found now. According to folk legend, the famous female general Fan Lihua of the Tang Dynasty guarded the northern border of Youzhou. Once he fought with the northern country and was trapped under Jiulong Mountain (at that time, Shengquan Mountain was still called Jiulong Mountain). The enemy was strong and he was weak, and his life was hanging by a thread. In a desperate situation, Fan Lihua put her hands together and called out to Guanyin Bodhisattva to show her spirit! Guanyin Bodhisattva, save me! Upon hearing the call for help, Guanyin Bodhisattva immediately enlightened the nine crouching green dragons of Jiulong Mountain, asking them to rescue and achieve a special cause and effect. The nine green dragons were pleased to respond, and immediately raised clouds and rain, and heavy rain fell over the army. The two sides of the battle were drenched by the heavy rain and could not open their eyes or raise their arms, and they were busy with their own affairs. In the chaotic army, Fan Lihua led the idle soldiers to run away and broke through the siege. Afterwards, Fan Lihua was grateful for Guanyin Bodhisattva's life-saving grace, so she built a temple and a statue for Guanyin Bodhisattva at the place where the clouds rose behind Jiulong Mountain for permanent worship. Over the years, the wind and rain have invaded, and the Tang Dynasty buildings have disappeared. However, on the west side of the main hall in front of the Guanyin Temple and the southeast corner of the Weituo Hall, two ancient roots can still be seen today. Their diameter is more than 1.5 meters, which should be relics of the Tang Dynasty. After the Tang Dynasty, during the Liao, Jin and Yuan Dynasties, the area around Shengquan Mountain was in social turmoil and the population was constantly moving. The stories of the Guanyin Temple on Shengquan Mountain were mostly lost in history. During the Zhengtong period of the Ming Dynasty, the famous monk Bitian from the capital traveled here. He visited the ancient temple and enjoyed the scenery. He deeply realized that this place was a rare place for retreat and meditation, far away from the world. So he vowed to rebuild the Guanyin Temple on Shengquan Mountain. After years of fundraising, during the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty, the Guanyin Temple on Shengquan Mountain was rebuilt by Master Dingcheng, a disciple of the monk Bitian. Since the Ming Dynasty, due to the relocation of the capital to Beijing and the implementation of immigration policies, the population in the northern part of Beijing has increased sharply, and people's lives have become relatively stable. A large village has gradually formed in the south of Huaisha River in front of Shengquan Mountain. Because the village is located at the mouth of the ravine where the Mutianyu Pass of the Great Wall is located, the village is named Koutou Village. By the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, the Guanyin Temple had fallen into disrepair and the temples were dilapidated. After the abbot monk persuaded and the wealthy families of Koutou Village jointly raised funds, the temple was fully restored. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the current situation changed and the monks of the temple scattered. In 1958, the last monk of the temple passed away and the monks' rooms were empty. However, the villagers of Koutou have been protecting the temple buildings with all their heart. Even during the ten years of turmoil, the footprints of the pilgrims on the Shengquan Mountain Road have not been cut off. In 2003, the restoration project of the Guanyin Temple of Shengquan Mountain was started again. Now the temple is resplendent and the precious statue is shining again. More and more friends from farther away gather here to chant the name of the compassionate Guanyin Bodhisattva. The revival of Shengquan Mountain in this reincarnation will last forever.
