Sichuan
🎧  Listen to Introduction

"Jinqian Ban" is also known as three boards. It is made of nan bamboo (or wang bamboo). The board is nine inches long, one inch wide, slightly thick, and the sound of hitting the board is pure. The singer holds the lower end of the second board in his left hand and the lower end of the other board in his right hand. The upper ends of the two boards are opened and closed to hit the rhythm. One board is on the upper end of the second board to match the rhythm and add embellishments, so that various rhythms and sounds can be played. In the process of spreading, Jinqian Ban has formed a unique board method, called "Jianban" and "Zaban". "Jianban" focuses on dialogue and singing, and "Zaban" focuses on board method. Before the performance, the board is usually shown first, one is to show the board art, and the other is to attract the audience's attention. Jinqian Ban is mostly performed by one person, and the lyrics are generally seven-character sentences or ten-character sentences, and the words and sentences can be shortened. During the singing, the dragging tone appears with the content, and the singing tone is mostly evolved from the Sichuan opera Gaoqiang "Gui Na Ao" and "Fuguihua". Jinqian Ban pays attention to "singing", "playing" and "acting". "Singing" refers to singing; "playing" refers to playing the board; "acting" refers to performing. The early performance of the money board was called "stalls on the ground", and later it was performed in book halls. During the Republic of China period, there were also money board performances. The money board performance artist in Guanqiao Town is represented by Zuo Ducheng, whose main works include "Praise Entrepreneur Xiao Baitie", "Tian Deng Great Change", "Who is the Master of the Three Daughters-in-law", etc. The artistic characteristics of the money board performance are mainly reflected in the "board method" and "singing style". Different playing methods and unique singing styles form different styles of schools. The three boards of the money board are its only "accompaniment instruments", which not only "accompaniment" but also polish the singing style. Different playing methods of the board play the role of "leading", "supporting", "wrapping", "lining" and "pad". The money board has been passed down to this day, and fewer and fewer people can perform in Guanqiao Jingnei. The performance form of the money board has almost disappeared from people's memory and has almost lost its survival and development space. Except for professional groups, almost no one in the folk learns the performance art of the money board, and the money board needs to be protected and passed on. Jinqianban is mostly performed by one person, and three boards are its only accompanying instruments. It does not require band accompaniment, scenery or complicated props. The performer holds three bamboo boards and combines rap with the beating and performance of the bamboo boards to express the story and portray the characters. Instruments: Three bamboo boards, nanmu or spotted bamboo, about nine inches long, one inch wide and half an inch thick. There are holes on the sides of the "top board" and "bottom board", two holes on the "top board" and three holes on the "bottom board", and two small copper coins are embedded in each eye hole.
