Wanzhou Money Board
Jinqianban is one of the traditional folk storytelling and rap art in Sichuan and Chongqing. It evolved from Kuaiban and Lianhuanao. Jinqianban entered a new development period after the founding of New China and reached its peak in the 1970s and 1980s. The props for Jinqianban performance are three small bamboo boards. In the initial performance, copper coins were inserted into the holes of the small bamboo boards. In addition to the sound of the bamboo boards being hit, the sound of the copper coins colliding with each other could be heard. Later, in order to facilitate production, people eliminated the copper coins in the process of making the props of Jinqianban, and Jinqianban became three small bamboo boards. Jinqianban performance is mainly in the form of beating, speaking, singing, and acting. The performance is performed by one or several people, and the actors combine beating and singing, supplemented by performance. When beating, the actors hold three bamboo boards in their left and right hands, hitting the beat and playing the basic "di, da, kua" and various colorful sounds to create an atmosphere; when singing, there is both speaking and singing, the language is humorous, and the singing is catchy; the performance pays attention to the body movements, fingers and claws, and conveys the spirit and meaning. The lyrics are beautiful, focusing on plot description, rhyming, and the sentences can be long or short. They are flexible and agile. In just a few sentences, the characters can be portrayed vividly, and the composition structure is rigorous. The main lyrics of the money board are mostly taken from Chinese folk legends or historical stories. Such as "The Fourth Sister Goes to the Earth", "Zhaojun Goes to the Frontier", "Meng Jiangnu", "Qin Xianglian", etc. After the founding of New China, the singing segments of the money board not only include historical and legendary ones, but also added content that was changed to praise new people or new things, such as "Delivering Goods to the Countryside", "Three Cultural Posts", "The Number One Scholar in Planting Rice", "Lei Feng", "Jiao Yulu Visits the Poor in the Snow and Wind", "Where is There Time to Go Back to My Mother's Home", etc. The characteristics of the money board are complete structure, harmonious rhyme, brisk rhythm, vivid image, simple props, and flexible singing. The performers can be male or female, old or young, and they can be performed in any venue. With the development of society, the living space of the traditional art of money board is getting smaller and smaller. With the passing of old artists, the actor team is in a short supply, and many performance skills have not been passed on. (No pictures available, please provide them.)
