Traditional sword forging skills Project protection unit: Qitaihe Hero Craft Sword Forging Co., Ltd. Representative inheritor: Wang Qibing Qitaihe traditional sword forging skills adopt the traditional "Longquan Sword" forging technology, mainly using three kinds of raw materials: high carbon steel, low carbon steel, and rough iron. After folding and breaking, natural patterns are formed on the surface of the sword, making the sword sharper and more flexible. Wang Qibing, the heir of the traditional sword forging skills family, restored and sorted out a complete and unique forging skills on the basis of excavating and absorbing the traditional Chinese sword forging skills. This skill includes three process flows: "forging", "quenching and covering with soil and burning the blade", and "grinding". Repeated folding and forging can make the content and distribution of trace elements such as carbon, manganese, and zinc in the metal more uniform and reasonable, so that the sword is both hard and soft. In the "quenching and covering with soil and burning the blade" process, quenching refers to heating the sword body with oak charcoal unique to the Northeast, and when it reaches a certain temperature, it is quickly taken out and inserted into water or snow. Because the temperature drops suddenly, the internal structure of the metal changes, which increases the hardness of the sword body. Some swords are covered with soil and burned, that is, the blade is coated with local mineral mud, and the mud is removed after heating, so that the sword retains its original toughness and the blade becomes extremely hard. "Grinding" uses local grindstones. The ground swords are green and cold, with great artistic and collection value. Now they have formed a series of long and short varieties. On May 24, 2021, the sword forging technique (Qitaihe sword forging technique) applied by Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province was approved by the State Council to be included in the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects.
