"Kuzha" is the transliteration of Laku language, which means "spending the year". It is a traditional festival of the Lahu people in the southwestern mountainous area of Yunnan Province. It is held in March or early April of the Dai calendar every year, and the festival lasts for four or five days. Early in the morning of the first day of the festival, when relatives from other villages who come to celebrate the festival fire muskets, people quickly gather and go to the village gate to welcome them with gongs and elephant-foot drums. When the host and guest teams meet, the respected elders toast the guests and sprinkle rice on them to show their blessings. After that, people first go to the home of "Anzhan" who is in charge of religious affairs in the village, kowtow and bless Anzhan, and then sing and dance. In the morning, each family carries a bamboo basket filled with rich food, a musket and a pole with patterns on it, and comes to the flat land in front of the temple. Then people fire muskets, and an elder leads the team holding poles, holding food, and beating gongs to go around the village and ask for rice along the way. Then they enter the temple, erect poles, and hold grand sacrificial activities. After the sacrifice, people start swinging and playing with spinning tops. In the evening, young people first go to the door of each house to shoot guns and splash water to remind people to go to the square in the village. That night, there is singing and dancing in the square all night long. On the third day of the festival, the whole village gathers to eat the New Year banquet. Each family brings their own wine, meat and rice, and they eat in two ponds according to their surnames. At that time, the host will first give a congratulatory speech, wishing people a happy holiday, and wishing people good luck and peace in the new year, and a good harvest. Then they will drink and celebrate the festival happily.
