Weiyuan Clay Sculpture

Gansu
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Weiyuan clay sculpture has a long history. Since ancient times, it has been a place where Tibetans, Qiangs, and Han people have lived together. After the Han Dynasty, Taoist temples, Buddhist temples, and temples emerged in society, which directly promoted the demand for clay idols and the development of clay sculpture art. At present, most of the statues in many temples in the county are clay sculptures. The creation of Weiyuan clay sculpture has distinct regional characteristics. It takes the production and life that are closely related to the people as the theme, and mainly reflects the long-standing agricultural civilization at the source of the Wei River. We have now developed works reflecting production and life, such as the "Codonopsis Series", "Potato Series", "Thinning Field", and "Water Mill", as well as works reflecting Weiyuan's folk customs and habits, such as "Chicken Selling Baby", "Pig Killer", "Returning to My Mother's Home", and "Wife, Children, and Warm Kang". They are beautiful in shape and colorful. Information source: Weiyuan County People's Government Information source: Weiyuan County People's Government
