Wuchuan clay sculpture, commonly known as "mud ghost", is a traditional art popular during the Lantern Festival in Wuchuan. It originated in the late Tang Dynasty, rose from the folk, and was rooted in the folk, with distinct local characteristics. Wuchuan clay sculpture has a profound cultural connotation, carrying and running through the entire history of Wuchuan. It first started from the tile kiln, developed to Meilutou and even the whole city, and even spread to Huangpo, Bopu and other towns. Wuchuan clay sculpture has unique characteristics: first, it is large, generally the size of a person or slightly larger, or even several meters high; second, it is fast to make, and clay sculptures of the size of a person are often made in three or four days; third, it has a broad mass base; fourth, it is improvised according to specific environments. During the Lantern Festival every year, clay sculptures are made on all major roads in Wuchuan, attracting people from all over the country to visit, driving and promoting the economic development of Wuchuan, and making significant contributions to building a civilized city and creating a harmonious society. Wuchuan clay sculpture is the essence of Wuchuan folk art, and it is also a precious folk wealth of the Chinese nation and even the world.
