Xiangshan Tianyanghu Chashan Old Dragon is one of the oldest dragon dances in Xiangshan. It is spread in Tianyanghu Village, Dingtang Town, Xiangshan County. It is more famous in Dingtang Town, Xiaotang Township, and Xinqiao Town, and has a great influence in the whole county. The founding time of Tianyanghu Chashan Old Dragon cannot be verified. A large-scale dragon invitation activity was held during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1904). In 1906, the old man Hu Shande organized villagers Hu Shanbiao, Hu Jiacun, and Ye Conggou to reorganize the dragon dance team, called "Tianyanghu Chashan Old Dragon", and danced dragons in various villages and valleys every year in the first month of the year. Tianyanghu Chashan Old Dragon is 51.8 meters long and 0.5 meters wide. It is the longest and largest dragon in Xiangshan. The old dragon has a simple and vigorous shape. The dragon body is made of golden cloth and decorated with sky blue dragon scales. The dragon head is folded with iron wire and bamboo wire, which is lifelike. Tianyanghu Chashan Old Dragon has strict procedures and grand ceremonies for dragons. When setting off, the team flag, dragon flag, colorful flag, signboard lantern, and scattered lanterns will lead the way, followed by lotus lanterns, monkey lanterns, carp lanterns, pomfret lanterns, and rice and crab lanterns. When dancing the dragon, the dragon head is close to the dragon ball, and the dragon body is winding and undulating with the dragon head, constantly circling, swimming, turning, rolling, passing, leaping, entangled, and performing "passing the dragon gate", "jumping the dragon gate", "stringing the plum blossom formation", "circling the four gates", "tying the top" and other contents. The dragon dance band is composed of large gongs, small gongs, cymbals, drums, trombones and other instruments, and the accompaniment music is the "gong and drum scriptures" passed down from generation to generation. The dragon dance team members wear red headscarves, yellow double-breasted clothes, and blue cloth shoes. The whole dragon dance team is colorful, grand, warm, and has a strong visual impact. The Tianyanghu Chashan Old Dragon was stopped during the Cultural Revolution and resumed after the reform and opening up. The current Tianyanghu Chashan Laolong starts the dragon dance in each village and each valley from the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month every year until the end of the month, and often participates in the art performances of folk activities such as the China (Xiangshan) Fishing Festival, the Shipu March 3 Beach Walking Festival, and the Datang Red Temple Fair.
