Hui Zhaquan has a long history, which can be traced back to the beginning of the formation of Hui nationality in the late Yuan Dynasty and the middle of the Ming Dynasty. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Hui martial arts were quite common, and there were Huihui Eighteen Elbows, Tangping Seven-style Boxing and other boxing styles that were widely circulated, and the unique style of Hui martial arts gradually formed. Hui Muslims are proficient in Zhaquan, Dantui, Pi Guaquan, Hongquan, Paoquan, Huangyingjiaquan, Liujiaoshi, Twenty-four Styles, Laojiaquan, Bajiquan, Xinyiquan, etc., which are all unique boxing styles of Hui people. The ancestor of boxers, Mali Kunding, created a martial art called Mali Kunding boxing or Kunding boxing or Mali Kunni boxing, also known as Zhaquan. This boxing technique originated in the Tang Dynasty in China and was introduced to Qiu County in the Ming Dynasty. After Zhaquan was introduced to Qiu County, Hui people often practiced martial arts to strengthen their bodies and prevent diseases, and martial arts continued to develop. In the 23rd year of the Republic of China (1934), the "Qiu County Chronicle" states: "In the past, only our country was the best in martial arts, so it was also called national arts." "The folk customs of this county are strong and honest, they like martial arts and chivalry. Those who have always practiced martial arts still have their legacy today." In the fifth year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1879), boxer Ma Yongzhen (Hui, from Chen Village, Qiu County) went to Shanghai to perform with his unique skills of Chaquan. When he met a Western strongman setting up a ring, Ma Yongzhen went to the ring to compete with him. After several rounds of boxing, the Western strongman was killed, shocking China and foreign countries. In the seventh year of the Republic of China (1918), when Cai Jinyu (Hui, from Beihebao Village, Qiu County) was Ma Liang's martial arts coach, he was invincible in the Beijing ring. Later, he was valued by Xu Shichang, the president of the warlord government, and served as a martial arts coach for the headquarters' guard team. Later, he served as a junior and colonel martial arts coach under Yan Xishan and Feng Yuxiang. In 1935, Ma Xiuling (Hui, from Beihebao Village, Qiu County) participated in the Shandong Province Wushu Competition in Jinan and won the first prize in the individual event.
