Wen'an Xihe Drum
Zhu style Xihe drum originated from wooden board drum - Zishu. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, three people, including Liu Chuanjing, Zhao Chuanbi and Wang Lu from Baoding, pioneered the performance of wooden board drum and string Zishu, and artists from all over the country followed suit, initially forming a rap form accompanied by drums, boards and three strings. Since then, the Xihe drum has been bred and established for decades. In the generation of wooden board drum artist Ma Sanfeng, Xihe drum gradually took shape and achieved a major development. The first disciple Zhu Hualin created the Zhu style art and made contributions to Xihe drum. Zhu Hualin, the founder of Zhu style, was born in Xiaoqiguan Village, Wen'an, Hebei. He studied drum books from Ma Sanfeng since he was a child and was quite talented, enjoying a great reputation in the early days. He also loved Hebei Bangzi and could play Banghu. He accompanied the famous bearded man Dajigao for several years. This experience was closely related to the improvement and creation of Xihe drum in the future. Zhu Daguan has a good voice, a wide range, beautiful sound quality, clear pronunciation, bold tone, good at interspersing between plain singing, flexible and natural, with the magic of flowing clouds and water. He is good at short and medium-length stories, and his rhymes are all real words. He is very good at talking about literature and martial arts, especially books that describe children's family stories and reflect rural life. He spent most of his life in the rural areas of Hebei Province, and got along well with the peasants. No matter young or old, they all regarded him as close friends. After every village he went to and every performance, he would invite people to his residence to chat. Growing vegetables and raising pigs, family affairs, can all become lively topics in his house. In his long-term artistic practice, Zhu Daguan was able to base himself on tradition, maintain close contact with the masses, and constantly reform and improve the original tone and singing skills. He also drew nutrition from local operas and folk songs, and created some new tunes and singing methods, which greatly enriched the expressiveness of this type of music. Zhu Daguan's achievement is not only to create an art school, but also to promote the further development and maturity of Xihe drum. Therefore, he has been respected by the descendants of Xihe. Zhu's Xihe drum is flourishing in central Hebei. The fifth-generation inheritor, Ms. Zheng Yan, not only inherited the essence of Zhu's art, but also established Beijing Zheng Yan Xihe Drum Culture and Art Communication Company, working hard to inherit and promote Zhu's rap art.
