Dragon dance, commonly known as dragon playing, has a long history of thousands of years in China. People regard dragons as the embodiment of auspiciousness, believing that they can not only eliminate evil and evil spirits, subdue demons and monsters, but also bring about clouds and rain to bring about a good harvest. Therefore, people often connect their fate and good wishes with dragons. When there is drought and no rain, people hope that dragons can bring timely rain. During festivals, people dance dragons to pray for longevity and good harvests. The hydrangea dragon lanterns in Rongguanying, Qingyuan County have been passed down from generation to generation in this way. From the relationship of master and disciple, the hydrangea dragon lanterns in Rongguanying can only be traced back to Wang Laoyin during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. However, according to the "Reconstruction of Niangniang Palace Stele" erected in the ninth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty in the original Sun Village Niangniang Palace, there is a famous inscription by Rong Xuan, the head of the "Yunlong Shenghui" in Rongguanying, in the donor column. This shows that Rongguanying had hydrangea dragon lanterns as early as more than 400 years ago. The hydrangea dragon lantern consists of three parts: the dragon head, the dragon body, and the dragon tail. There are twelve sections (thirteen in leap years), each section represents a month, and the two dragons have twenty-four sections, symbolizing the twenty-four solar terms in the lunar calendar. The sections are disconnected, and each section is composed of two hydrangea-shaped balls. After the candles are lit in the balls, the wicks are upward and never extinguished. During the performance, each section dances with the dragon head, and the dragon guide holds a colorful ball (dragon ball) to tease the red and green dragons to dance. Its performance forms are divided into two types: street walking and field. The performance content includes two dragons coming out of the water, dragon and horse presenting pictures, leaping over the dragon gate, dragon gate formation, crossing the bridge, moon gate, copying the chain, two dragons teasing the precious beads, golden dragons coiling around jade pillars, two dragons playing in the water, arranging words, and vomiting words. The hydrangea dragon lantern has both the momentum of a giant dragon soaring and the characteristics of the lantern. The two coexist, and the combination of steel and softness is very ornamental. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the hydrangea dragon lantern developed rapidly. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the hydrangea dragon lantern of the military camp danced on the streets of Baoding City. At night, all the street lights were turned off, and two fire dragons soared and danced, which was spectacular. The hydrangea dragon lantern has been included in the "Collection of Chinese National Folk Dances" (Hebei Volume).
