"Hydrangea Lantern" originated from Zhaoying Village in Changqing District, Jinan City, Shandong Province. It is a dance art form that uses hand dragons and hydrangea lanterns as props and combines martial arts with folk art. As early as nearly 400 years ago in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties (1616 AD), a martial arts troupe was formed in Zhaoying Village, Changqing. The martial arts troupe mainly used martial arts movements, added folk Spring Festival play movements, and choreographed a set of rough, powerful, free and unrestrained hand dragon hydrangea dance. People played with hand dragons and hydrangea lanterns made of bamboo strips to the rhythmic sound of gongs and drums. As time went by, after more than 400 years, the people who played continued to process and organize, making the "Hand Dragon Hydrangea Dance" more and more perfect, forming a set of dance performance art forms with local characteristics. Pious people often worship dragons as idols and worship them as gods, so they choreographed a dance with the dragon as the theme - "Hydrangea Lantern". Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, the "Hydrangea Lantern" activity was organized spontaneously by the people for their own entertainment. It was usually organized and distributed by local gentlemen or village clan leaders. The "Hydrangea Lantern" activity became popular during the Spring Festival. The original performance formation consisted of 16 people, which later evolved into 44 people; from 1 dragon and 15 beads to 8 dragons and 88 beads; the action formations between the performances increased from 12 to 24. Playing with beads: The performers lie flat on the ground, facing up, like children shaking the dragon beads, and the earth is shining like stars. It shows the joy of people after the harvest. Dragon coiling on the pillar: It is the peak of the entire "Hydrangea Lantern". The performers are excited and show their heroic postures. The dragon coils on the high pillar and spews clouds and mist, pushing the entire "Hydrangea Lantern" to a climax, showing the Chinese people's national spirit of going through wind and rain, brave and unyielding, and showing the Chinese nation's lofty ambition to stand on its own in the world. Character hand dragon: The hand dragon performer dances with two hydrangea lanterns in his hands; Hydrangea Lantern: The lanterns are divided into the first lantern, the second lantern, the third lantern and the last lantern. The first lantern is the leader and commander of the hydrangea lantern team. The whole team must rely on the head lantern to guide various actions and scene shapes, and the other lanterns cooperate with the actions. There are three types of costumes: The hand dragon dancer wears a white trousers and jacket with golden edges, a martial arts hat on his head, and fast boots or round-mouth cloth shoes on his feet. The head lantern dancer: yellow trousers and jacket with golden edges. The other lanterns: red trousers and jackets with golden edges. 2. Prop hand dragon: about 80 cm long, simple shape, its structure is made of bamboo strips woven into a dragon body and a dragon head and tail, fixed with wooden boards, and a wooden pin as the spine, strung together, the head, tail, and body are all papered or wrapped with colorful silk, and then the dragon head and tail are painted.
