Haizhou Chinese medicine preparation skills are a traditional medicine project of the seventh batch of representative projects of intangible cultural heritage at the municipal level in Lianyungang City. The main feature of Haizhou Chinese medicine preparation skills is that they are characterized by local materials along the coast. In terms of traditional cutting, both northern and southern knives are used in Haizhou, reflecting that Haizhou has been one of the coastal channels for north-south exchanges in the past century; in terms of roasting, seed-based medicines such as fenugreek are usually stir-fried with a broom, cucumber cream is unique in China, and the roasting of white radish is also a local feature. Solid auxiliary materials are stir-fried, such as elephant skin with sand, donkey-hide gelatin with clam powder or cattail pollen, etc. In addition to the currently popular wine, vinegar, salt, ginger juice, honey, and sesame oil, goat blood, whole blood, and black bean juice are also commonly used for liquid auxiliary materials. These all reflect the product characteristics of Haizhou, which is backed by mountains, faces the sea, and is surrounded by rivers. The Haizhou area is located in the northeast corner of Jiangsu Province. It has deep connections with the Huai'an Shanyang School of Medicine, Suzhou Wumen School of Medicine and Yangzhou famous doctors within the province, and is greatly influenced by Wu'an and Anguo in Hebei outside the province. For more than a hundred years since the late Qing Dynasty, famous doctors have gathered with the ancient city of Haizhou as the center. While serving the local people, they left behind a valuable wealth of Chinese medicine preparation techniques.
