Yancheng Dragon Dance (Hengji Dragon Dance)
Yancheng Dragon Dance (Hengji Dragon Dance) is a traditional dance item in the third batch of representative items of Yancheng City's intangible cultural heritage. According to research, Hengji Dragon Dance originated in the Qing Dynasty, flourished in the Republic of China, and prospered today. It has a history of nearly three hundred years. It has gradually evolved from the initial dragon-making to pray for rain to a dynamic dragon dance. Hengji Dragon Dance is different from other dragon dances. It is mainly based on eleven-section and thirteen-section dragons. The dance has a large range of movements, large, numerous and varied dance patterns, and spectacular scenes. The routines are rich, flexible, vivid, and interesting, and the public participation is strong.
