The Sa Festival is a traditional festival of the Dong ethnic group. It is held on the first Mao day of the second lunar month every year. It is the second most important festival in the local area after the Spring Festival. On the day of the festival, activities such as tasting Dong oil tea, eating Dong glutinous rice, "Sa" blessing into thousands of families, Dong original ecological song and dance performances, drinking peace porridge, and Dong family long table banquets were held. Legend has it that there is another legend about "Sa": According to legend, in order to protect the safety of the Dong village, "Sa" was outnumbered in a battle with foreign enemies, so she jumped off a cliff in a place called "Longtang Gai" in Liping and sacrificed herself heroically. In order to commemorate her, later generations built an altar in the village specifically for "Sa", and gradually formed a complete set of sacrificial rituals and methods for managing the altar. Sacrifice to Sa is divided into spring and autumn. The spring sacrifice is usually held in the early days of the first lunar month, which means to ask "Sa" to bless the Dong people to have a prosperous population and livestock and a good harvest in the new year; the autumn sacrifice is usually held when the new rice starts to turn yellow, which means to thank "Sa" for its blessing and celebrate the safety of the whole village. In some villages in the Dong township, each surname has a Sa altar. The first and fifteenth day of each month are the statutory (village rules and regulations) days for sacrificing to Sa, and the eighth day of the first lunar month is the day for sacrificing to Sa and "Lainan Sa" (asking grandmother for meat).
