Guangzhou Chongyang Climbing is a series of folk activities in which people in Guangzhou and its surrounding areas, including the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong and Macao, climb the Baiyun Mountain and other peaks in the northern suburbs of Guangzhou and buildings such as Zhenhai Tower around the Chongyang Festival on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month every year to pray for good luck, respect the elderly, and worship the mountain. It has a wide range of mass, folk inheritance, and anthropological, religious, and folklore values. People believe that climbing can change luck. The old customs of Guangzhou Chongyang include carrying flower cakes and cornel wine, climbing five-story buildings and twin towers, and setting off bows and kites. There are also Chongyang worship and sacrifice to ancestors, and these activities continue to this day. Since the 1970s, quite a number of people have turned to climbing Baiyun Mountain during the Chongyang Festival, and have absorbed some forms of Baiyun Festival activities.
