Shanxi
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Wanrong infant folk costumes have a long history. As early as the Han Dynasty, the people in southern Shanxi followed the custom of paying attention to the clothes for babies on their full moon, first birthday, and birthday. Infants and young children wear cat doll shoes, tiger head shoes, lion hats, pig doll hats, etc. given by relatives and friends, which are cute and auspicious, and they entrust people with good wishes for health, happiness and joy. Wanrong folk costumes include shoe series, hat series, purse series, cloth tiger series, etc. Among them, tiger head shoes and hat series are the representatives. They are passed down from generation to generation between mother and daughter, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in the family. They are made by female elders during infancy. The locals pay attention to "grandmother's hat and aunt's shoes". Generally, men wear red and women wear green, which means "red official and green lady", wishing children to grow up to be tiger-headed and vigorous. Tiger head shoes are complicated to make. People often use rabbit hair to trim the shoe mouth, tiger ears, tiger eyes, etc., with red, yellow and white mixed, and clear outlines. After the child puts on the tiger head shoes, the rabbit hair flutters in the wind, and the tiger head also has a dynamic feel. The tiger-head hat needs to go through dozens of processes such as cutting, pasting, inserting, embroidering, etc. to complete, which takes about five or six days. Various artistic patterns can be embroidered on both sides and the back of the hat, which looks lifelike and vivid, showing the pure thoughts and feelings and healthy aesthetic taste of the people. The raw materials for making shoes and hats are cloth of various colors, gold thread, decorative lace, cloth lace, cotton, etc. In the past, the fabrics were basically silk, and the lining was home-woven cloth. The thread used for embroidery was also the thread drawn from the silkworms raised at home, that is, pure silk thread. With the passage of time, most of the embroidery threads are now changed to pure cotton thread and wool thread. The traditional folk costumes of infants and young children show the Chinese nation's pursuit of a better life, are the embodiment of ancient culture, and are the embodiment of the creativity of the working people. They have important folk value, aesthetic value, humanistic value and use value. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
