Commonly known as "Carving Knife Zhang", it is located in the north of the middle section of the grinding factory outside Qianmen. It is a shop in Beijing that specializes in various carving knives. The founder Zhang Zhengxin, whose ancestral home is Ji County, Hebei Province, came to Beijing in the 27th year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1847). He was an apprentice in an iron shop. After completing his apprenticeship, he opened a small workshop in the grinding factory, named "Zhang's Small Iron Workshop", which specializes in making tweezers and knives. Because of the fine workmanship and good quality of his tweezers, he was known as "Tweezer Zhang". Soon, Zhang Zhengxin began to develop carving knives. The carving knives he made were durable and popular. In the sixth year of Guangxu (1880), the sign of "Zhang Shunxing Carving Knife Shop" was officially hung. Zhang Shunxing's carving knives are all engraved with a "no" as a mark, indicating that the carving knives are genuine and do not deceive customers. In the 17th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1891), Zhang Deshan became an apprentice and inherited his father's business. He expanded the shop from a small room and a half to a shop with a front shop and a back factory, three storefronts, and five to six employees. Fayuan Temple and 0youtang in the capital had become the main customers of the shop. In 1925, Zhang Deshan's son Zhang Fengming joined Zhang Shunxing, and the shop developed greatly. Before the liberation of Beijing, the small courtyard of seven or eight houses at No. 96 of the Grinding Factory (old house number) belonged to Zhang Shunxing, and the number of employees increased to nearly ten. The variety of products also increased, including wood carving knives, stone carving knives, porcelain carving drills, zinc plate carving knives, bamboo carving knives, pencil carving knives, rubber carving knives, etc. In addition, plaster sculpture knives, book binding awls, mounting knives, word picking tweezers, oil painting palette knives, etc. were also produced. In the 1920s and 1930s, the famous painter Qi Baishi and his disciple Liu Shudu loved Zhang Shunxing's carving knives very much. In 1956, Zhang Shunxing realized public-private partnership. In 1958, Zhang Shunxing merged with Shengmao Guanggou Shop and Xingmao Changgou Shop in Roushi Street and was named Beijing Guanggou Factory. The factory moved to Shunyi and was later renamed Beijing Hardware Tools Factory. In 1963, the "Zhang Shunxing Engraving Knife Store" was restored on the west side of Chongwenmen Outer Street. It was cancelled during the "Cultural Revolution" and merged into the Yongdingmen Outer Sharp Knife Factory. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
