Shaanxi
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Agongqiang is a unique and wonderful flower in the shadow play in the central and northern areas of Guanzhong, Shaanxi (Liquan, Xianyang, Jingyang, Gaoling, Lintong, Yaoxian, Fuping and other cities and counties). Its singing melody is not heavy or agitated, but clear and graceful; its characteristics are "turning high", "low stopping" and "singing three stoppings". Agongqiang music is good at depicting and expressing the complex psychological activities of characters. For example, the aria of Jiao Guiying in "Wang Kui's Betrayal" is sad and sad, and it is painful to the ears; the duet between Xu Xian and Bai Suzhen in "Borrowing Umbrella" in "The Legend of the White Snake" is gentle and affectionate; Lei Gang's crying in the river in "Dujuan Mountain" is high-pitched and passionate, and it is heart-wrenching. These classic arias are not only loved by the audience, but also affirmed by experts and colleagues in the drama industry. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the transfer of Agongqiang from shadow play to the stage was a development and innovation. It was performed in Beijing in 1961 and was praised by the central government and people in the Beijing drama industry. Over the years, the plays created and performed, such as "Four Seasons Song", "Two Families", and "Three Girls", have won awards from the Ministry of Culture and provincial governments. However, in the past decade or so, the development of the area has been slow and it is on the verge of extinction, and it is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
