🎧  Listen to Introduction

Zizhuyuan Park is located in the northwest suburbs of Beijing, near Baishiqiao in Haidian District, and west of Beijing Capital Gymnasium. Zizhuyuan Park was built in 1953. It was named "Buddha Shades Zizhuyuan" because there was a temple in the northwest of the park during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The park covers an area of 47.35 hectares, of which water surface accounts for about one-third. Nanchang River and Shuangzi Canal pass through the park, forming a basic pattern of three lakes, two islands, one embankment, one river and one canal. It is a natural landscape garden with hundreds of bamboos and thousands of green poles, and bamboo is used to create landscapes and win with bamboo. Zizhuyuan Park is free to visit. The landscape of this park imitates the mountains and rivers to seek its naturalness, with rugged rocks carefully placed, pavilions and corridors scattered, and bamboos and flowers cleverly arranged in between. Everything is picturesque, and the scenery is pleasant in all seasons. The spring breeze warms the flowers, the summer mist floats the boats with green canopies, the autumn rain moistens the reeds and maple leaves, and the winter clouds and snow reflect the pines and bamboos. On the Qinglian Island in the central part, there are the "Bayi Pavilion" and "Bamboo Rhythm Scenery Stone"; on the Mingyue Island, there are the "Wenyue Tower" and "Flute Sound Drunk Moon"; in the western part, there are the "Fuyin Zizhu Courtyard", "Cross-sea Eastward Expedition" and "Purple Bamboo Fishing"; in the southern part, there is the "Chengbi Mountain House" and a children's playground; in the northern part of Changhe is the "Yunshi Garden" with unique characteristics of Jiangnan gardens, which is elegant, beautiful, quiet and unique, with such scenes as "Cool and Anxiu", "Jiangnan Bamboo Rhythm", "Deep Bamboo and Quiet Lotus", "Youxian Mountain Pavilion", "Green Cloud Pavilion" and "Banzhulu".

Philosophy related to the heritage

Interpretation of Zizhuyuan Park from the perspective of Eastern philosophy Zizhuyuan Park, with its rich natural landscape and cultural history, has become a shining pearl in Beijing. From the perspective of Eastern philosophy, Zizhuyuan Park is a vivid embodiment of the concept of "harmony between man and nature". In traditional Chinese philosophy, nature and man are interdependent and coexist harmoniously. The bamboo forest, lake, pavilions and towers in Zizhuyuan Park not only show the beauty of nature, but also incorporate the wisdom of humanity. Bamboo symbolizes tenacity and nobleness in Chinese culture, while the lake implies softness and tolerance. The two complement each other and embody the Taoist philosophy of "weakness overcomes strength". In addition, the architectural layout in the park pays attention to feng shui and follows the principle of "hiding wind and gathering qi", which embodies the pursuit of harmony between man and nature. Interpretation of Zizhuyuan Park from the perspective of Western philosophy From the perspective of Western philosophy, especially from the perspective of existentialism and phenomenology, Zizhuyuan Park provides a unique space for experiencing "existence" and "perception". Existentialism emphasizes individual freedom and choice. Zizhuyuan Park provides visitors with a place to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life and meditate on the meaning of self-existence. Walking in the park, everyone can have a dialogue with nature based on their own feelings and experiences. This experience is subjective and profound. Phenomenology focuses on direct perception and experience. Every scene in Zizhuyuan Park, whether it is the rustling of bamboo forests or the breeze on the lake, can stimulate the senses of visitors and let people experience the richness and beauty of life in the present. This direct perception allows visitors to transcend the daily trivialities and achieve a deeper connection with nature and self. In summary, whether from the perspective of "harmony between man and nature" in Eastern philosophy or the existentialism and phenomenology of Western philosophy, Zizhuyuan Park provides a unique philosophical thinking space, allowing visitors to experience the depth and breadth of life in the fusion of nature and humanity.
