🎧 Listen to Introduction
More than 85% of Warsaw's Old Town was destroyed by Nazi troops during the Warsaw Uprising in August 1944. After the war, Warsaw citizens launched a five-year reconstruction campaign, and today the Old Town with its churches, palaces and markets has been meticulously restored. It is an outstanding example of an almost complete reconstruction of history from the 13th to the 20th century.
