Located on the southern edge of the Red River Delta, the Trang An Group of Landforms is a spectacular landscape of limestone karst peaks interspersed with valleys, many of which are partially flooded and surrounded by steep, near-vertical cliffs. Explorations of caves at different altitudes have revealed archaeological traces of continuous human activity for more than 30,000 years. They show the occupation of these mountains by seasonal hunter-gatherers and how they adapted to major climatic and environmental changes, especially the repeated inundation of the land by seawater after the last Ice Age. The history of human occupation extends from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages to historical times. The ancient Vietnamese capital of Hoa Lu was strategically established here in the 10th and 11th centuries AD. The site also includes temples, pagodas, rice fields and small villages.
Evaporative Karst and Caves in the Northern Apennines
The group is an epigenetic gypsum karst that is exceptionally well-preserved and extensive. It has an extremely high density of caves: more than 900 in a relatively small area, with a total length of more than 100 kilometres. This is the oldest and best-studied evaporite karst in the world, with academic research beginning in the 16th century. It also contains some of the deepest gypsum caves in existence, reaching 265 metres below the surface.
Škocjan Caves
This unique limestone cave system consists of collapsed sinkholes, underground passages about 6 km long and more than 200 m deep, several waterfalls and one of the largest known underground chambers. Located in the Kras region (literally meaning karst), the site is one of the most famous sites in the world for studying karst phenomena.
Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst
The karst caves are diverse in shape and concentrated in a small area. The 712 caves discovered so far constitute a typical temperate karst system and present an extremely rare combination of tropical climate and glacial climate, providing the possibility for studying geological history of tens of millions of years.

Desembarco del Granma National Park
The Sambaco del Granma National Park, with its uplifted marine terraces and associated continuously evolving karst topography and features, is a globally significant example of geomorphic and physiographic features and ongoing geological processes. Located in and around Cabo Cruz in southeastern Cuba, the area includes spectacular terraces and cliffs, as well as some of the most pristine and impressive coastal cliffs on the western Atlantic coast.
