Dongshan Song is a form of folk art storytelling that was developed after Chaozhou Songs from Guangdong were introduced to Dongshan, Fujian, and then localized. It is commonly known as "singing albums" among the people. In the process of singing, the artistic elements and tunes of other local songs and music such as Nanyin were successively integrated, and it has the local characteristics of Dongshan. The performance form of Dongshan Song is a long narrative "song album" in rhymed style chanted by one person. The program content is story-telling, the text is simple, the lyrics are rhymed, and the singing rhythm is steady. Traditional song album programs include "Wanhua Tower", "Cui Mingfeng", "Chen Shimei", "Fengjiao and Li Dan", "The Romance of Sui and Tang Dynasties", "Xue Gang's Rebellion against Tang Dynasty", etc. New programs created since the mid-20th century include "Fisherman's Daughter" and "Weaving Net Song". Dongshan Song was widely circulated among the women in the old days and was almost considered a textbook for women's life. Dongshan women learned about history, society, knowledge, and learned to be a person, know good and evil, and know etiquette by listening to and singing songs. People regarded singing songs as a respectable thing, and used songs as dowry, forming the custom of singing songs in the hall of the bride. Dongshan songs are passed down by word of mouth. With the death of old singers, the songbook is in danger of being lost. At the same time, due to the destruction of the 0, the original songbook is very rare, and the conditions for singing are greatly restricted. The activities of singing songs have greatly decreased in the late 20th century, and have almost disappeared so far, and are in urgent need of strong support and protection. The songbook has been introduced to Dongshan for more than 600 years. In the process of singing, the tunes of Nanyin and Qinqiang are incorporated, and gradually formed the "Dongshan songbook" with the characteristics of Dongshan dialect. It is a folk oral literature in the form of chanting and singing, and it is a textbook for women in the old times. The content of the songbook is mostly extracted from history, legends, dramas, folk tales, proverbs, etc. It has a strong story, simple text, smooth rhyme, and the singing melody has a strong local characteristic. The repertoire is rich and the content is mostly loved by the people.
