🎧  Listen to Introduction

"Jianben Woodblock Printing" takes woodblock printing technology as its main content, and before it there are papermaking technology, book compilation, and the design of print illustrations, etc.; after it there are book trafficking and sales, etc., that is, the "trinity" of ancient bookstore publishing model of writing, printing and distribution. Its core content is woodblock printing. Its process is first writing. That is, ask the book worker to copy the manuscript onto standardized thin paper, and then stick it evenly on the printing plate with the front side facing down, so that it is clear as if it is directly drawn on the plate. The second is proofreading, and the third is modification. The fourth is carving. First, use a carving knife to carve out the main lines around the ink mark, and then use a chisel to chisel off the ink-free surface. Then use a chisel to chisel off the excess part. Some of the delicate parts are finely processed with a sharp carving knife. The fifth is printing. First, fix the printing plate on the table, then use an ink brush to dip ink and gently apply it on the relief layer of the printing plate. After completion, immediately cover it with a piece of paper and gently brush the back of the paper with a brush. The positive image of the text or pattern will be printed on the paper, and then peel it off and dry it. Repeat this process until a sufficient number of pieces are completed. The fifth step is to bind them into books. In 2005, "Jianben Woodblock Printing" was included in the first batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage representative works of Fujian Province.
