The main repertoire of Chenhe Mulian Opera is "Mulian Biography". In the long-term artistic practice, artists have continuously expanded the scope of the repertoire, including "Qian Mulian", "Liang Biography", "Xiangshan" and a series of repertoires called "Hua Mulian", forming a huge repertoire combination, called "48 Mulian Operas". In the history of more than 500 years in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, singing Mulian Opera has always been the most grand national entertainment activity in Chenhe area. The legend of Mulian Opera spread from Kaifeng to Nanle, Henan since the Song Dynasty. There is an oral script of Mulian Opera in Nanle. Judging from its plot, ideological content and main characters, it is in the same vein as the Mulian Bianwen of the Tang Dynasty. Puyang Mulian Opera is mainly folk acrobatics, integrating opera, martial arts, fireworks and magic. It has colorful stunts such as sawing, grinding, opening intestines and dissecting belly, dance movements such as fork coiling, fork rolling, gold hook hanging jade bottle, playing with water snakes, digging four doors, and many boxing styles such as King Kong Fist, Wu Song Picking Flowers Fist, and Five Dragons Out Fist. The costumes, props, makeup and performances are all unique. Because it is hidden among the people, it still retains its rough and primitive appearance. Its singing style was originally flower drum tune, which was changed to Da Ping tune in the Qing Dynasty. Mulian Opera is known as the "living fossil of Chinese drama" and provides extremely valuable materials for the study of the origin, evolution and development and inheritance of Chinese drama. However, Mulian Opera, which is currently only preserved in some rural areas, has increasingly aged folk artists and few people are willing to learn from them. The best young actors in professional troupes have almost disappeared. Due to the lack of protection and research funds, a large number of precious texts and audio and video materials have gradually been lost and damaged, and some have even been recruited by foreign experts and scholars. In addition, Mulian Opera has been listed as a tourist attraction in some places. Driven by interests, traditional performances have been fragmented and distorted, and immediate measures need to be taken to rescue and protect them.
