🎧  Listen to Introduction

The "Yaoshan Swing" is mainly spread in Yaoshan, Guangchang, Fushan and Wangfu in Chun'an County. This area is located in the north of Chun'an County, adjacent to Lin'an City and She County in Anhui Province, 38 kilometers away from Qiandao Lake Scenic Area, and is the hometown of walnuts in Zhejiang Province. It is a kind of recreational equipment used by local farmers for market or community temple activities. It is made of four wooden pillars into a rotatable cross fork, each fork is tied with a cloth belt, and a child sits on the cloth belt. When the cross fork rotates, the four children on the cloth belt turn up and down in turn, and the children feel up and down, so it is called "swing", and because it is in the Yaoshan Township area, it is called "Yaoshan Swing". "Yaoshan Swing" is a folk performance activity in Chun'an that integrates acrobatics, dance and singing. The swing is a column frame made of cypress, on which is mounted a movable wooden wheel cross, and on the cross there are four small swings. During the performance, the swing is carried by eight strong men, accompanied by the local characteristics of "three blows and three beats". Four little girls dressed in red, green, yellow and blue sit on the small swing in turn. The four little girls work together to make the small swing turn and roll. When the cross turns, the little girl sitting at the fork "turns" from underground to more than three meters high in the air, giving people a thrilling feeling. At the same time, the four little girls dance the feather fans in their hands and rotate the handkerchief flowers. Such a performance is thrilling and cheerful. In addition, the performance is accompanied by the accompaniment of the band, the long suona, the erhu, and two little girls in pink clothes carrying a drum. The scene is very cheerful, lively and spectacular. The wonderful appearance of "Yaoshan Swing" at the Xiushui Street Temple Fair also made the citizens and tourists present cheer. "Yaoshan Swing" originated in the Southern Song Dynasty. According to the "Chronicles of Chun'an County" in the Qing Dynasty, there was an intelligent and learned man named Fang Chu in the Eastern Han Dynasty. He was good at divination and was promoted to the position of Taichang. He committed suicide because of injustice and was posthumously awarded the title of Shangshu Ling. Folk legend has it that he was good at medicine, so the locals respected him as "Fang Xianweng". Most of the Fang surnamed people in Chun'an are his descendants, so they built temples and statues for him. Now the "Fang Xianweng Temple Fair" is held in the Yaoshan area on the sixth day of the first lunar month and the third day of the third lunar month every year. During the period, swings and terrace performances are held to set off the atmosphere of the temple fair. "Yaoshan Swing" is a fine product of Chun'an's ethnic folk traditional art, and it has a high value. First, it has the value of studying regional folk culture. Although the swing was formed in the Southern Song Dynasty, the collection, collation and research of swing-related materials can further strengthen the research on the historical and cultural origins of the Fang family. Second, it has the value of creating agricultural product brands. Yaoshan, Fushan and Wangfu are the main production areas of walnuts, tea, bamboo shoots and other agricultural and sideline products in our county. With the help of the swing activity platform, the influence and popularity of agricultural and sideline products can be expanded and the brand effect can be enhanced. The third is cultural and entertainment value. The Yaoshan Swing is thrilling, cheerful, and integrated with opera. The performance is accompanied by a band, and the scene is very cheerful and lively, which can greatly enrich the amateur cultural life of the local masses. The fourth is the tourism development value. With the continuous development of Chun'an's rural tourism, the swing can be used as an important part of tourism and cultural activities and displayed to tourists. The value of the "Yaoshan Swing" has gradually shown its unique folk art charm after the attention and protection of the relevant departments of our county.
