Xinyu Huagu Opera is a major opera in Jiangxi. The Xinyu Huagu Opera Troupe has nearly 200 repertoires, among which there are more than 160 small dramas in the early stage of Huagu Lantern, which are full of life and original vitality. People have always only known about Gan Opera and tea picking. In fact, Xinyu Huagu Opera, centered in Xinyu City, radiates eastward to Qingjiang, Xingan, Fengcheng, southward to Xiajiang, Jishui, Ji'an, northward to Shanggao and Gao'an, and westward for thousands of years. There is a long history, clear lineage, numerous repertoires, and powerful voices. Its momentum is as great as the water of the Chongqing River. Wherever it spreads, Le'an, as far away as Fuzhou, can also be found. As early as the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, "Huagudeng" was introduced to the central part of Jiangxi with immigrants from southern Jiangxi and western Fujian. From the Tongzhi to Guangxu period, it was combined with Xinyu lanterns and the local Jiangzhe ditty, and evolved into Xinyu Huagu Opera. By absorbing foreign plays and developing its own unique plays, Huagu has a variety of plays, including "single stage", "couplet", "three small" and "half-class", big play, continuous play, as well as female, ugly and male plays, which are either funny, sad or positive, with different styles and self-contained systems. Representative plays include: "Three Children Hoeing Cotton", "Mending Backpacks", "Selling Flower Thread", "Wang Xian Tailoring Clothes", "Fortune Telling", "Fortune Reading", "Sending Melons" and so on.
