🎧  Listen to Introduction

Lidu Daoqing is a folk art in Jiangxi Province. It is said to have originated in the late Tang Dynasty, formed in the Song Dynasty, and reached its peak in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is mainly distributed in Lidu Town, Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province, and the villages under its jurisdiction. It has also spread to surrounding towns and villages, and has a history of more than a thousand years. Daoqing is said to have originated from the Taoist songs, and later developed into a folk rap art form in which beggars knock on bamboo tubes to beg from door to door. In its early form, when begging from door to door, beggars knocked on bamboo tubes while singing a few nice words in the form of jingles, and the bamboo tubes they held were also used to drive away vicious dogs. Roughly in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, folk artists in Lidu Town covered the mouth of the bamboo tube with snake skin or pig bladders, wrote their own lines, created their own tunes, and transplanted them to the teahouses and taverns in the town for performance, and "Lidu Daoqing" was officially finalized. Because of its novel form and the lyrics that mostly reflect the local customs and folk customs, it is very popular with customers. Some folk artists who do not have a fixed place walked through the streets and alleys, went from village to village, and sang door to door. Because Lidu Town is located on the east bank of Fuhe River, there are endless merchant ships passing by, and the three freight docks are crowded all year round, with a large flow of people. The good cultural and geographical environment has injected vitality and vigor into the survival and development of Lidu Daoqing, which lasted until the end of the Republic of China. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, due to the rise of road and rail transportation and the enrichment of various cultural life, Lidu Town Daoqing rap gradually withdrew from the stage of history, leaving only a few blind people still making a living in the countryside. Since entering the new era, in order to explore this traditional folk cultural performance form, the government cultural department has made efforts to reorganize and arrange Lidu Daoqing, and created a number of new programs that reflect the new style of the times and are close to the lives of the people. They have been performed on stage and have been well received. The main performance forms of Li Du Dao Qing are: first, single-person Dao Qing, in which one person sits with a Dao Tong and sings while playing. It is not restricted by the venue, flexible, and has no fixed script. You can sing whatever you like to hear; second, multi-person Dao Qing, usually four men and four women, with a fixed script and music, singing and performing at the same time, which is more effective; third, stage performance, in which the number of actors, gender, and costumes are selected according to the script, and the performance is performed in the form of singing and dancing according to the prescribed program. Li Du Dao Qing was born and raised among the people, deeply rooted in the people, and rich in unique folk local colors. From the history of development and evolution, it can be seen that Li Du Dao Qing has a strong vitality. It was originally a rap tool for poor people to beg for food, and then evolved into sitting and singing in teahouses and wine shops, to singing and singing in the streets, and finally developed to singing on the stage, and given new forms and connotations. It sings about the people and things around the people, has a strong pertinence, and is very popular among the people. Li Du Daoqing may seem simple and monotonous, but it is not easy to rap well. Its artistic value lies in the fact that the rap is close to people's lives, light-hearted, funny, witty and humorous, and fascinating. It is similar to crosstalk, but different from crosstalk, and has a deep mass base among the people.
