On February 2, the Dragon Raises its Head. From February 1 to February 3, a large-scale event, the Dragon Festival, is held in the Dragon Temple. This has been a long-standing custom in the area around the Dragon Temple in Beigou, Fangshan District. As early as the Qing Dynasty, villagers from several villages near the Dragon Temple, such as Fuzizhuang, Heilongguan, Bangezhuang, and Chenjiatai, raised funds to build a large theater opposite the Dragon Temple, dedicated to performing operas for the Dragon God. On February 1, the flower fairs of each village, such as the big drum fair, stilt fair, and flag fair, began to perform. From Fuzizhuang to the river bank more than 40 miles west of Bangezhuang Village, there were crowds of people and no way to get through. After liberation, due to various reasons, the Black Dragon Pool Temple had lacked effective management and repair. In the mid-1990s, the Dragon Temple was finally rebuilt with funds raised by various villages. A district-level cultural relic that had lasted for more than 600 years had a new beginning. Entering the 21st century, due to the attention of leaders at all levels and the active participation of the masses. As a folk cultural activity with a high starting point, the Heilongtan Temple Fair has typical characteristics of the culture of western Beijing in terms of history, geography, humanities, tradition, customs and folk customs, fully reflecting the richness and substantive connotation of the folk literary and artistic resources of western Beijing. The current February 2nd Dragon Festival Temple Fair inherits its hundreds of years of history and culture, taking the essence and removing the dross, and enlivening the amateur cultural life of the mountain villagers. It is a large-scale mass event in Fozizhuang Township. Whether celebrities or ordinary people, they line up in long queues to burn incense from the first night of February. The three courtyards of the Dragon God Temple are crowded with people, and the open space outside the courtyard is shoulder to shoulder. What is more eye-catching is the colorful yangko team in the daytime. Every year, nearly 20 yangko teams participate in the temple fair, performing from the morning of February 2nd to the evening. The walls are lined with red lanterns, and the smoke from the incense in the temple goes straight to the sky. The yangko team is colorful and magnificent.
