Chinese Lantern
Zhongma Lantern, a traditional dance item in the third batch of representative items of municipal intangible cultural heritage. Jinshanxia natural village in Yaxi Town is an ancient village with a history of nearly a thousand years. There is Jinshan in front of the village and Wangyu Mountain behind the village. The area around Jinshan was once the ancient battlefield where Yue Fei fought against the Jin Dynasty. Yaxi Town has preserved the Nancheng Ruins, a municipal cultural relic protection unit, which is the site of Yue Fei's anti-Jin war. Since the Ming Dynasty, in order to commemorate the national hero Yue Fei, the villagers wrote and directed this Zhongma Lantern based on Yue Fei's deeds of fighting against the Jin Dynasty, performed it locally, and it has been passed down. It was interrupted during the "Cultural Revolution" and resumed after the reform and opening up. In the 1990s, in order to develop the rural economy, many young people went out to work all year round, and the performance was interrupted again. In recent years, with the continuous improvement of rural living standards, villagers have danced Zhongma Lantern again during the Spring Festival. Jinshanxia Zhongma Lantern consists of a band and dancers. There are more than 60 performers, 16 main performers, one person with one horse, including 7 band members. The first horse is mainly composed of Jin soldiers: Jin Wushu, Xiao Niu, Jin Danzi, Hami Chi, Da Tartar, Xiao Tartar, Da Tartar, Xiao Tartar; the second horse is mainly composed of Yue Family Army: Yue Fei, Gao Chong, Zhang Xian, Wang Gui, He Yuanqing, Yue Yun, Niu Gao, Xiao Niu, etc. The actors hold the corresponding weapons and ride horses to fight, recreating the battle scene of Yue Family Army fighting Jin Wushu. The main performance formations are: Peace in the World, Killing in the Alley, Chasing and Killing, Killing in the Head, Stealing the Camp, Gao Chong Killing Four Gates, Attacking Niutou Mountain, Double Dragons Out of Water, Five Star Formation, Twisted Silk Formation, Dragon Gate Formation, Octagonal Formation, Well Formation, etc. The band is the conductor of the entire performance, and the main instruments are percussion instruments, such as gongs, drums, boring gongs, cymbals, etc., accompanied by suona and long trumpets. The dancers follow a fixed routine and run through different formations as a complete performance. The Jinshan Xiazhong Lantern has the characteristics of shaping characters and drama. It is unique and one-of-a-kind among all kinds of bamboo horse performances and is highly ornamental. It has historical heritage value, patriotic education value and artistic research value, and plays an important role in enhancing national self-confidence and promoting social harmony.
