Jinling Taokun Moxibustion Therapy is a traditional medicine project in the fourth batch of representative projects of municipal intangible cultural heritage. Moxibustion is a medical method that has been proven effective in clinical practice for thousands of years. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, there was a saying that "a seven-year illness requires three years of treatment with moxa." Before the Tang and Song Dynasties, moxibustion was listed alongside decoctions and acupuncture as one of the top three methods of treating diseases. Famous ancient medical scientists such as Bian Que, Cang Gong, Zhongjing, and Hua Tuo were all familiar with moxibustion and used it at any time. Sun Simiao also used these three methods as important means of treating diseases, so there is a record in his works that "decoctions attack the inside, and acupuncture attacks the outside." The three methods have their own characteristics and complement each other, and they should not be neglected. "Jinling Taokun Moxibustion Therapy" has a history of more than 100 years. It adheres to the ancient method, inherits the treatment experience and family experience of ancient doctors, and combines the characteristics of modern people's life and diseases to innovate. Not only has the traditional moxibustion treatment ideas, moxibustion tools and treatment methods been well preserved, but also on this basis, some moxibustion tools have been improved by using modern technology to enhance the treatment effect and improve the patient experience. The moxibustion method has been spread to and around the world through teaching, benefiting more people. The important inheritor of "Jinling Tao Kun Moxibustion Therapy" is Mr. Tao Kun, a moxibustion expert of Junhetang, a "famous Chinese medicine doctor in Nanjing". He was born in June 1941 and is nearly 80 years old this year. Tao Kun was born in a family of traditional Chinese medicine. He has been influenced by his grandmother Zhang Lingyun, grandfather Zhu Xiaojin, father Tao Jiechen, uncle Zhu Zizhen and second uncle Zhu Ziyu since he was a child. Under the influence of his grandmother Zhang Lingyun, grandfather Zhu Xiaojin, father Tao Jiechen, uncle Zhu Zizhen and second uncle Zhu Ziyu, he had the initial and most direct understanding of Chinese medicine to save the world. In the winter of 1959, Tao Kun was admitted to the second phase of the Chinese medicine apprentice class in Nanjing, and at the same time he became a disciple of Mr. Wu Zhixing, a famous acupuncturist. After graduating in 1965, Tao Kun began acupuncture diagnosis and treatment. In the decades of clinical career since then, through the teachings of his father and teachers, as well as the constant guidance of Mr. Cui Xueliang, a great acupuncturist in Nanjing, and his tireless and diligent study, Tao Kun gradually formed his own unique diagnosis and treatment style and characteristics. Based on the practical experience of using "Taiyi Magic Needle" in clinical practice, he innovated a new moxibustion method, dynamic moxibustion (formerly known as sports moxibustion). Tao Kun constantly practiced moxibustion, reformed and innovated some traditional moxibustion methods and moxibustion tools, and continuously improved the operation technology of moxibustion therapy to make moxibustion more adaptable to clinical needs. For example, he innovatively developed a new type of needle skin rolling needle, vigorously carried out the "ovulation promotion" technology of ordinary acupuncture and moxibustion (moxibustion through turtle shell), and innovated spiral moxibustion, staggered moxibustion and row moxibustion on the basis of mild moxibustion, sparrow pecking moxibustion and spiral moxibustion, improved the cantilever moxibustion method, moxibustion amount, "long snake moxibustion" method and the reform and innovation of padding, designed a homemade tool for moxibustion through walnut glasses frame, a homemade wooden horse in moxibustion on bamboo horse, a warm box in moxibustion device, and a homemade reed tube for moxibustion through reed tube, etc. Based on the principle of Chinese medicine steam moxibustion, he designed and manufactured a Chinese medicine steam moxibustion instrument and obtained a patent. Tao Kun has continuously improved, innovated, enriched and standardized the skills of inheriting the family tradition and traditional moxibustion methods. He refined and quantified the original general and vague operations, and put forward requirements on moxibustion methods, moxibustion strength, moxibustion time and moxibustion amount, which significantly improved the effectiveness of moxibustion, thus playing a great role in popularizing moxibustion. In 2015, Tao Kun established the "Tao Kun Moxibustion Treatment Studio" in Junhetang. To this day, Tao Kun still insists on outpatient treatment despite his advanced age. In addition to outpatient treatment, Tao Kun organized the theory of moxibustion into text, wrote "Concise Family Moxibustion Therapy", participated in writing "Fine Needle Shallow Acupuncture Therapy" and "Home Bed Manual", and wrote more than 20 papers, which were published in domestic and foreign medical journals. The papers have won international, domestic, provincial and municipal awards. In addition, Tao Kun and his studio disciples are sorting out the medical records related to moxibustion and compiling them into a book, leaving behind precious information to protect the traditional and effective treatment method of "Jinling Tao Kun Moxibustion Therapy".
