The legend of Yanzhi Well is a folk literature project in the third batch of representative projects of municipal intangible cultural heritage. Yanzhi Well was built in the Chen Dynasty of the Southern Dynasties. Chen Shubao, the last emperor of the Six Dynasties, was an emperor who preferred to seek pleasure and did not care about state affairs. Although he often received reports of tense enemy situations in front of him during his reign, Chen Shubao still indulged in drinking and having fun. In 588 AD, Yang Guang led 510,000 Sui soldiers to attack Jiankang in eight directions and finally captured Jiankang (Nanjing). When Chen Houzhu heard the roar of killing outside, he realized that something was wrong and panicked. He hurriedly took his favorite concubines Zhang Lihua and Concubine Kong to the bottom of Jingyang Tower, trying to find a place to hide. At this time, he found a dry well in front of him, and he hurriedly pulled the two concubines into the dry well. The Sui army finally interrogated the eunuchs and found out that Chen Houzhu had hidden in the well. The Sui soldiers shouted for the people inside to come out, but no one in the well responded. The Sui soldiers shouted again, "If you don't come out, we will throw stones at you." Only then did the inside cry, and the Sui soldiers pulled the three people out of the well with ropes. The two concubines were killed on the spot, and Chen Houzhu was captured. It is said that the two concubines' makeup was relatively thick and bright, and in the process of entering and exiting the dry well, all the makeup fell on the well fence, leaving a thousand years of indelible marks. Later, Zeng Gong, a Jinshi in the Song Dynasty, wanted to warn future generations, so he wrote the Inscription of Humiliating the Well, which was engraved on the stone well fence in seal script, with 18 characters such as "Humiliating the Well is here, can we not be careful?" Therefore, the Rouge Well is also called the Humiliating Well. For hundreds of years, the legend of the Rouge Well has become an inexhaustible material for literature and art, and has been vividly reflected in novels, calligraphy and painting, film and television, and drama. The real Rouge Well is in the Taicheng of the Six Dynasties Palace City. The Jiming Temple is not the original one. There is a Rouge Well and a "Ancient Rouge Well" stele.
