The tea-picking opera in southern Guangxi was introduced to southern Guangxi from southern Jiangxi via northern Guangdong in the middle of the Qing Dynasty, and has a history of more than 400 years. According to the characteristics of its supporting words, the tea-picking opera is also called "Huduya". The tea-picking opera in southern Guangxi is widely spread in Yulin counties in the southeast of Guangxi and some counties and districts in Qinzhou, Wuzhou and Nanning. The tea-picking opera in southern Guangxi belongs to the "three small operas", starring Xiaosheng, Xiaodan and clown, also known as the "triangle class". It was originally a song and dance performance with "tea picking in December" as the main content. Later, on this basis, plots such as land reclamation, tea ordering, tea exploration, tea picking, tea frying and tea selling were added, forming a complete set of songs and dances reflecting the labor and love life of tea farmers. During the performance, one person usually plays the role of tea master and two people play the role of tea maiden, and some plot-based life dramas are interspersed in the song and dance. The singing of historical stories or folk legends in the tea-picking opera in southern Guangxi is called "tea picking ancient", which is mostly comedy and farce. There are also some plays influenced by Caidiao, such as "Selling Red Thread", "Selling Water Powder", "Selling Groceries", "Getting a Wife by Cutting Firewood", "Borrowing a Wife by Shaving the Head", "Marrying a Wife with Piety", etc. Later, due to the influence of the Cantonese troupe that took refuge in Guangxi after the failure of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement, the tea-picking opera in southern Guangxi later appeared in the drama "The Mandarin Ducks in Disarray", "Gao Wenju", "Chen San Polishing the Mirror", etc. The overall style has changed greatly, and it is no longer the tea-picking opera in the early years. The main accompaniment instruments of the tea-picking opera in southern Guangxi are gongs, drums, cymbals, wooden fish, suona, flute, erhu, and the props are ribbons, money whips, flower fans and handkerchiefs. The singing tunes are tea tunes, which are the original tea-picking tunes; the second is tea inserts, which are based on "Nanchang Xiaoqu" and "Four Seasons Lotus" and absorb folk songs from all over the country. The singing language is mainly Hakka, supplemented by local dialects, and the lines are mostly rhymed lines. The tea-picking opera in southern Guangxi is lively and enthusiastic with strong local characteristics, with singing and dancing.
