The Mulao people mainly live in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and they call themselves "Ling" and "Jin". Yifan Festival is a traditional festival unique to the Mulao people, with a strong sense of gratitude and blessing. Yifan Festival is also known as "Happy Wish" and "Yifan Gongye", which means "paying a vow to the ancestors". There are two legends about the origin of Yifan Festival. First, it is said that when the ancestor of the Mulao people was imprisoned for committing a crime, Liang and Wu, the two jailers, sympathized with him and released him in the middle of the night. But it was pitch black that night, and there were pursuers behind. At the critical moment, a girl in white suddenly came to rescue him with a white horse. The ancestor rode away on horseback and escaped from danger. After the ancestor became rich, he did not forget the life-saving grace of Liang, Wu and the white horse girl, and designated the day of disaster as "Yifan Festival". Second, it is said that during the Tianxi period of the Song Dynasty, the Mulao Mountain Township was invaded by foreign enemies, and Liang and Wu led the villagers to fight against them, but unfortunately died heroically. In the fourth year of Jiaxi, Emperor Huizong of Song Dynasty appointed Liang and Wu as officials and built a shrine, stipulating that in the year of Hai, Mao and Mo, the three Yuanshi should be invited to pray for blessings, and pray for the safety of people and animals, and a good harvest. The Mulao people choose auspicious days three times every 10 years at the beginning of winter in the lunar calendar, and hold a grand and sacred Yifan Festival in their respective clan ancestral halls, taking the so-called "winter" in the area where the Mulao people live as a unit, and conduct pious sacrificial activities. The whole activity lasts for one day and one night, and consists of seven procedures: setting up the altar, inviting the gods, selecting the animals, persuading the gods, singing the cow brother, joining the troops and sending the gods. During the festival, the whole village is full of joy, and men, women, old and young celebrate the harvest together, share the joy, and wish each other a good harvest and prosperity of livestock in the coming year. The Yifan Festival is unique to the Mulao people and is the crystallization of the long-term accumulation of Mulao beliefs and customs. It embodies the essence of Mulao culture and has become an important symbol of Mulao culture. At present, many traditional folk customs of the Mulao nationality are becoming increasingly faded, the cultural space inherited through the Rice Festival is gradually shrinking, and there is a lack of successors, so they are in urgent need of rescue and protection.
